wildland fire featureAt approximately 1:30 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a fire in the dunes about two miles south of Table Bluff.

One of the firefighters responding reported, “I’ve got a visible on the smoke…It looks to me to be five to fifteen acres…It is going to be tough access.” He requested four-wheel drive engines.

The dispatcher has requested crews of inmates from High Rock Camp to help fight the flames.

UPDATE 1:50 p.m.: According to the Incident commander on the scanner, this is a strong, wind-driven fire moving towards the north at about 7-15 mph. The fire is currently estimated to be 10 acres.

UPDATE 3:53 p.m.: Forward progress on the fire which reached up to 60 acres has been stopped, according to reports on the scanner.

UPDATE 6:25 p.m.: Calfire spokesperson Laura Coleman reports that the Drift fire, which was in the Spit Road area of Table Bluff on the beach near Crab Park, burned 58.4 acres of driftwood and grass. It was contained at 5 p.m.

Coleman said that Loleta Fire, Cal Fire, Ferndale Fire, Rio Dell Fire, Bureau of Land Management and California Fish and Wildlife all assisted in fighting the blaze. “Expect to see equipment in the area for mop-up and patrol of the incident,” she explained. Here’s two photos she provided of the incident.

i’m grateful the wind shifted to the south, if it was still out of the cold north it’d be on top of me and ours. blow it south to the waters.

i little bit ago scanner indicated it was 60 acres but no longer moving forward.

i’m a lucky dog today!

thank to all you protectors of life and limb.

If it’s burning after all this rainy season it probably needs to go.
