Man Shot at Marijuana Grow; Mendocino Sheriff’s Office Seeks Suspect

This is a press release from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Paulino Perez Marin

Paulino Perez Marin

On 04/18/2017, at approximately 6:55 AM, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call that a 19 year old Native American male, had arrived at the Covelo Fire Department, driving his own vehicle, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the torso. The victim was treated medically and later evacuated to an out of area hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and were able to ascertain that the victim had driven to a friend’s residence, located in the 79800 block of Zenia Road in Covelo. The property is residential land belonging to the Round Valley Indian Tribes. Once at the residence, the victim was confronted by a Hispanic male, later identified as Paulino Perez Marin, 47 years of age out of Santa Rosa.

Marin was armed with a rifle and started yelling at the victim. The victim started to leave the location in his vehicle and while doing so Marin fired multiple rounds at the victim. Numerous rounds struck the victim’s vehicle, with at least one round striking the victim in the upper torso.

After the location was identified, the Mendocino County Interagency SWAT Team, Sheriff’s Investigative Services, Patrol Deputies and members of the County of Mendocino Marijuana Eradication Team responded.  The suspect was not located. However, detectives, in the process of serving a search warrant, were able to ascertain the identity of the suspect and located evidence that was consistent with the statements made by the victim.

It was determined that the suspect was in the process of setting up a commercial marijuana growing operation at the location. 788 marijuana plants were eradicated and there was no evidence that the marijuana operation was for medical purposes or allowable under state and county guidelines.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the suspect and information as to his whereabouts. Any persons with knowledge if this crime are encouraged to contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office at (707)463-4086, or the Tip Line at (707)234-2100.}

But… it says right there under his pic that it’s Paulino Marin, and that’s the guy who shot the other guy.

There will be a test on all of this soon!

It’s a good thing that growers are all peaceful or we’d have even more violence! Ha Ha- yeah, sarcasm- remember when people came on here and said stuff like that? Those were the (happy, deluded) days!!

It helps immensely if one reads the article completely before asking obvious questions, that answers to are in the article in plain sight if one only reads with a modicum of attention & comprehension!!!!

The good part (for you) is I get to be the butt of your smart-ass. I swear that it wasn’t there when I wrote that. Maybe my computer glitched or something. Who knows…….. Just so you know, it is also one of my pet peaves when people don’t read carefully. However, I try to ask politely.

Funnily enough, I don’t think it was there when I first cracked open the article, and I wondered. I looked again when I saw Ernie’s comment, and it was there! I wasn’t sure whether it had just been added, or if I’d had a blue sock moment. I probably slipped right through that window when Kym was correcting it.

Okay so the soon-to-be victim drove to a “friend’s residence” that happened to be a giant grow.. Oops. The article said, victim was then “confronted by a Hispanic male,” which, I guess, implies this wasn’t his friend… where’s the friend? Should they be looking for a body? I would think if I went over to a friend’s house and someone I didn’t know put in a huge grow and was shooting at people, then I would wonder where my friend was buried.

thank god the kid lived!

This is exactly what we invited when we did not respond to the first mega-grows with eradication. We bent over backwards justifying those first obvious huge grows as “industrious” or “hard-working” neighbors but the truth is- when we allowed them to make their millions it only encouraged more and bigger and more and more. We deserve the crap mess we have made of this once great community. We did not protect what we had and so we allowed the criminals to roll in….

I agree with you, somewhere between “the courts are so full that we can’t raid and send a case to the Feds”/”we can’t use aerial photographs for evidence” and now, LEO has punted the situation into the future. Although the state can take aerial pictures for water issues, LEO couldn’t? And then they hid behind “we are complaint driven” excuses. During this time, it blew up. Not to provoke the “Bulgarian lives matter” crowd, but according to one in the know, there are over 200 eastern European grows in Humboldt county and how many other cartels? Has any reporter pinned down LEO with pointed questions about the cartels. Nah. And just where did that cartel money come from? How does the Mafia in eastern Europe make its money?! –get a sheriff to talk about this species of elephant in the room-I have. Of course foreigners represent just a percentage of the bigmoney that has come into the area, and homegrown greed is rampant as well… but criminey… this area is getting overrun with fast paced city dwellers. It is my firm conviction after living here for decades that LEO has had their hands tied behind their backs… with Ben Franklins, I am now stepping down from my soapbox.

Sounds like the kid is going to be ok, and is going to have a sweet story about getting shot. That’s almost like having a shark attack story. Wounds heal but the story can last a lifetime! Hopefully there will be a cool scar too.

That area is full of illegal grows, all the sheriff’s office/ police need to do is look for all the huge greenhouses on top of the hills and the cleared out flat land. A lot of a holes from so-cal growing up there. And they bring their so called friends = gang members with them to help. Too bad the locals are dealing with this mess.

The sheriff’s know exactly where the grows are but thanks to the supervisors in Humboldt county they are not going to do anythingabout it.
