Hwy 101 North Open at Last Chance Grade

Hwy 101 closed by a slide

“The slide on US 101 at Last Chance Grade in Del Norte Co has been cleared, and the road is open,” tweeted Caltrans District 1 at 5:31 a.m. Yesterday, at about 4:30 p.m., the hillside slumped onto the two-lane road south of Crescent City. Workers were eventually able to clear the road enough to allow one-way controlled traffic until 9 p.m. At that time the road was shut down and slide removal continued through the night.

Fortunately, this main highway north is now completely open.

I’ll wait awhile to travel that way. Sitting there waiting waiting and thinking is this going to all go while we’re sitting here?
