CHP Releases Info on Major Injury Accident Yesterday

chp major injury featureThis is a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On March 13, 2017, at approximately 1800 hours, a 1999 Chevrolet Pickup, driven by 29 year old Miranda resident Eric Chapman, was traveling on a dirt road adjacent to Rossi Ranch Rd. north of Salmon Creek Road. For reasons still under investigation, Chapman failed to maintain control of the vehicle and allowed the vehicle to run off the roadway and overturn. Chapman was ejected from the vehicle and received major injuries. Chapman was transported via air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. During the investigation,  it was determined Chapman was not been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and alcohol appears to have been a factor.

This collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Garberville Office.

I hope the horse that was mentioned in the previous comment section is okay. And of course the driver too.

“For reasons still under investigation” … “alcohol appears to have been a factor”. Looks pretty well-investigated to me.
Don’t drink and drive.
Wear your seatbelt.

How about If either of these are a problem, seek help. To even suggest that someone kill themselves is truly unnecessary! Sometimes people on the edge only need hear those words and they will try. I hope no one listens to your request. I hope this young man recovers fully.

No, I’ll stand by what I said. If you’re such a pathetic excuse for a human being that you think it’s OK to take actions that you know will not only harm yourself but have a high likelihood of killing others, all because you’re so defective that you’re compulsively consuming toxic substances, [edit] You are a danger to yourself and others.

Your suggestion of seeking help just results in wasted taxpayer dollars with a virtually nil chance of actually fixing the problem. That’s like the people who think probation actually keeps people from re-offending.

How many more innocent people are going to have to die before society starts treating drunk driving as an actual problem instead of a joke?

Doesn’t matter whether it’s private property or not, you can still be arrested for DUI for driving drunk on private property. And it’s obviously a behavioral issue:

He’ll have a hard time explaining to the judge why he was drinking and driving again less than 48 hours after being arrest for…… drinking and driving!!

I agree that to wish for someone to kill themselves is overly harsh, but I also agree with many of the things that Bushytails said. Drunk driving is a real problem and we shouldn’t treat it lightly and feel bad for the drunk driver. He is the only reason that he is in the situation that he is in. He chose to drink and drive and it resulted in major injuries. Thank goodness he didn’t injure or kill anyone else! Drunk driving is incredibly selfish, and I hope to god(dess) that he gets the help he truly needs.

Yep, it is. Some families have a hard time coming to terms with the truth.

I’m at the hospital with Eric and his toxicology reports from hospital came back negative for alcohol. I’m not sure what CHP is talking about, but here in America we are innocent until proven guilty. I guess people forget that.

Yes, he does drink and drive. And got his DUI the Sunday night before the major injury accident. Hopefully the family and young man can stop being in denial.

We are not denying the Sunday morning arrest for DUI, although toxicology reports are not back for that incident yet. I can hardly believe the comments from people and the media’s reporting of this.

Tj…don’t waste your time reading this crap…focus on helping E recover…where there is no Jesus, there is no grace. We love you, and we are praying that our sweet E recovers from the inside out, we know his heart, the core of this man…it will always be bound to ours by mutual love & respect. <3

In the court of anonymous comments, it’s “sentence first , verdict later”. Ignore the ranting shadows, dear Chapman family, and focus instead the prayers and well-wishes of your friends and family. We are all hoping for a swift, strong recovery for Eric. Hang in there, all of you.

I would have the CHP retract their accusation because they booked him somehow.

Eric is a sweet man who doesn’t drink and drive. I am looking forward to hearing that he is making a fast and full recovery. Accidents happen and people should not make snap judgments. If you weren’t there, you do not know what happened. And yes, CHP needs to retract that statement.

So he decided not to wear a proven life-saving device his vehicle is equipped with… as the result of entirely sober logic?
