Today should be colder especially in the mountains. The National Weather Service predicts light snow down to 2000 feet. Expect showers and possibly an occasional thunderstorm.

Tomorrow—snow levels could drop as low as 1000 feet in some areas.

Expect the roads to continue to deteriorate as rains and windy weather persist. Below is what we know about specific problems on roads frequented by Emerald County Residents at this point. As more information comes in, we’ll update in blue.

Major Highways:

(Most information below from Caltrans’ Quick Map. If you are heading to Oregon, check their similar site.)

Our engineer at the site estimates that last night’s slide activity dumped more material onto the roadway than we’ve been able to remove since the slide began in early January.

There is still no estimate as to when the roadway will reopen to traffic.”

Kym, I’ve had the same question lately when mile markers are given and I don’t know where they are talking about. Never fear Caltrans is here for statewide roads. They have a post mile overlay for Google Maps that lets you click on a spot to find the nearest post mile or search by post mile marker if you have it. I tried it and it works. Go here: https://postmile.dot.ca.gov/PMQT/PostmileQueryTool.html

West End Road between Arcata and Blue Lake was closed at Warner Creek this morning due to downed power lines. Not sure if they’ve cleared it yet.

Snow falls with Nature…

Nature wants all growers to move and allow for a community safe for children.

Every snowflake is the planet telling growers to get out.

Go back to your slums.
