Thank you for these updates. They are very helpful when planning travel routes.

I traveled from Sacramento to Fortuna yesterday. I took I80 west to SR 37 west to Lakeville Rd North to Petaluma. Then 101 North.

This took about 1hr longer than using I-5 North to SR 20 West. But both SR 20 & 16 were closed yesterday, due to slides.

you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Sadly, there are cracks in the ground everywhere. This next storm will probably wreak havoc, IF, it turns out to be as bad as predicted, whole hillsides will slip.

You may be right Ernie. Everywhere I have driven in the past week I am seeing cracks in the roads I’ve never seen.

Thank you! We need to get down the 101 to petaluma, starting late tomorrow night. We trust our friends and neighbors about road conditions wayyyyy more than the weather service. Love Humboldt, and you, Kym, and these posts from other readers xxoo

I live in Redwood Valley (between Willits and Ukiah). The road between here and Petaluma has been OK so far. Spots to check on are going thru Hopland in case Feliz Creek floods like it did the last big rain year (this is several years ago) and the stretch between Hopland and Cloverdale in case of slides. The Pieta Creek area (by the Rock Shop) was flooded but well below the level of the road. I know from this page that there was a slide north of Willits somewhere but that was a week ago and is no doubt cleared.

Please drive careful. The roads are getting worse. And what looks like just water may have a huge hole you can’t see. And lots of pavement that have broken up. We got hit with some of that loose asphalt Yikes

We really appreciate the road updates.

The 96 between Orleans and Happy Camps has a lot of heaves and cracks and reminds of the ice heaves from when we lived in Fairbanks Alaska.

The elk herd has been see on the side of the highway past Somes Bar.

Still far too many bigger trucks driving far too fast for road conditions.

We just slow down after they haul rear past us on blind curves hoping we don’t soon come upon them crashed.

No cell phone reception out here.
