As of about 11:15 a.m., Caltrans is detouring Hwy 101 between Cooks Valley and Piercy onto Route 271.

This is the same slide that covered all four lanes of Hwy 101 on December 10.

Caltrans said on their Facebook page, “Maintenance has detoured traffic onto Route 271 as a precaution, and motorists should anticipate the detour adding approximately 10 minutes to their travels around the slide.”

  • I drove up to Humboldt yesterday from Santa Rosa. People were driving WAY too fast through this zone, and several other dicey stretches of the highway.

  • I live 1/4 mi west of Carlotta VFD, totally flooded, water going over road, people NOT slowing down, hydroplaning, and spraying LOTS of water on passing vehicles reducing their sight to ZERO! PLEASE SLOW DOWN…safety for yourself and others! The water is even deeper at fire dept.

  • Starburst how did you know that they were driving way too fast do you have a radar gun?

  • Kym 271 is closed now also , correct?

    • 271 is closed now but 101 is temporarily open. Caltrans is trying to figure out how to keep people safe and how to keep traffic rolling. Mother Nature is messing with their plans…

  • “Mother Nature is messing with their plans…”
