This is a press release from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On February 7, 2017, at approximately 2:00pm Trinity County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Masonic Lane in Weaverville, where it was reported that a subject, identified as Robert Sorensen, was discharging a firearm in the front yard of his residence. Upon arrival, Deputies contacted and detained Sorensen. Deputies spoke with eye witnesses, who indicated that Sorensen was discharging a black handgun while in the front yard of his residence (at the ground). Sorensen was arrested for negligently discharging the firearm. Deputies from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant and served it Sorensen’s residence later that afternoon. During the execution of the search warrant a .45 caliber shell casing was located on Sorensen’s front lawn as well as a .45 caliber bullet found imbedded in his front lawn. Additionally, a loaded .45 caliber Hi Point pistol with a filed off serial number along with narcotics paraphernalia was located inside Sorensen’s residence. During an interview with Sorensen, he admitted to discharging the firearm as he believed that neighborhood cats were harassing his pet cat, who had presently been in heat.

Robert Sorensen Jr. is still currently in custody at the Trinity County Jail and is being held on $25,000.00 bail.

Nothing says intelligent like drawing the police to your house with a gunshot when you’ve got an illegal firearm and narcotics inside .kind of expect to see some face tats

Face tats are a Humboldt thing. Trinity county felons still have some self-respect.

It’s too bad we are not allowed to call people names on this blog. I can think of a ton of names that truly apply. Can I say the he is an “alleged” dumbshit?

A waterhose and nozzle works great for unwanted cats. If the cats are on a fence, legend has it you are supposed to throw a shoe.

I don’t know if shooting the ground, on his own property, with no one else around, counts as grossly negligent. It seems pretty safe, but probably annoying to neighbors.

no one else around? you may want to brush up on your reading comprehension skills.”Deputies spoke with eye witnesses, who indicated that Sorensen was discharging a black handgun while in the front yard of his residence (at the ground).” not to mention not being allowed to even own a gun in the first place.

By around, I mean “where he’s shooting at”. the witnesses could have been in houses across the street, for example.

Wow! Shooting a cat with a water pistol while yelling at it actually makes it stay away really, really good. Not a smart fellow!

In his defense the article does say shooting to scare off, not shooting at. But still, yeah he is not the sharpest tool
in the shed.
More concerning are the posts by people who see nothing wrong with shooting guns in populated areas. Sigh.
Tragedies waiting to happen.

The article also says that he was doing this to scare off other cats that were harassing his cat that was in heat. Two things here, one- why the hell isn’t this dumbasses cat fixed, and two- why the hell doesn’t this dipshit have his cat inside his house… I assume since he is obviously too stupid to possess a firearm legally, he is also too dumb to know how to care for a pet….

Fer cryin’ out loud… What good is it living all the way out in Weaverville if you can’t even shoot a gun off in your own front yard?

And get it together, people. Spay and neuter those cats (dogs too)!!!

What lesson can be gleaned from this man’s poor decision? If you have a female cat in heat, have it fixed. Especially if you are an ex-felon with a firearm and an I.Q. below room temperature!

Another lesson is if your gun rights are under legal suspension, shooting your gun in the yard is not a good idea from the get-go. Neighboring houses are not acceptable backstops. Ernie B. is correct that a low-pressure hose down from your garden hose will dissuade cats, unless your unspayed cat is in heat.

Now that he is in jail, It is going to be pretty hard for him to keep the other cats away from his cat in heat.

Honeydew, we’re not talking about Masons performing child sacrifices at the Bohemian Grove. We’re talking about a guy who discharged a firearm to shoo off a cat, and then got arrested and charged with five different offenses (see article, above).

Harassing his cat who is in heat? Apparently, he is totally unaware of the reproductive process in cats (humans, dogs, and most other animals, too). A female cat in heat depends on her heat cycle to lure the male, who will impregnate her, thus adding more (and more, and more. . .) cats to the world’s cat population.

Just like people. Only we dont even bother with being in heat part anymore.
We actually outbreed cats, dogs, most other creatures now.

Just imagine if we had free spay and neuter clinics. The money the county would save in criminal prosecutions.
