About 8:10 this evening, a heel boom, a piece of expensive equipment for loading logs, was reported on fire at the Scotia Mill. According to scanner traffic, the boom is fully engulfed in flames next to a log deck.

Scotia and Rio Dell Fire are fighting the flames.

UPDATE 9:21 p.m.: The fire is knocked down and firefighters are mopping up the mess.

Kym, thank you for what you do. More and more, people will refer to your posts when mentioning a bit of news. I check you posts first when looking for local info. You make a big difference. There should be an ‘appreciation’ day about you and your work. (maybe every day?) Again, THANK YOU, KYM!

Kym was selected as the Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year for 2016 for her work in bringing us up to date stories, and mostly for her care of our local community. We had a nice party, a great dinner and many stories and awards. Kym is very much recognized and appreciated in our community.

Interesting perhaps maintenance of rolling stock and cleanup of the surroundings is important.
