[UPDATE 3:11 p.m.] Roads and Weather: Tuesday
High winds and heavy rains last night knocked out power to over a thousand customers in the Humboldt Bay area, flooded roads, and sent hillsides spilling onto highways.
The National Weather Service reports wind gusts near 50 mph on Woodley Island and 53 mph in Arcata. Cooskie Mountain in the King Range showed a gust of 66 mph and Ship Mountain in Del Norte County had a gust of 70 mph.
Today should be rainy and windy again. The Eel River at Fernbridge may reach flood stage tonight.
Slides and downed lines are hindering travel in several areas. Below is what we know at this point but there are more issues that we haven’t confirmed. As more information comes in, we’ll update in blue.

where does east benbow drive refer to?
Apparently the road has been renamed since I grew up there and Denton of County Roads also called it East Benbow Drive but Google calls it East Branch Road. I’ll add that.
Kym
I think that East Branch Road turns east off of Benbow Drive and it goes out past the rodeo grounds. But, everything gets renamed….
My friend lives on and owns the rodeo grounds and her mailing address is East Branch Rd.
Does anyone have any more info on Eburg road @ goodman ranch? Is it a slide or a tree or the end of the world?
Ettersburg rd is because of a mud slide.
Just heard from a friend that she can’t get out of Kimtu.
I heard from my sweetie that she can get out due to a huge redwood across Bull Creek Flat Road/ the road to Honeydew from the Ave. of the Giants.
can or cannot?
Cannot. The road may be open later today
Ettersburg road at Goodman Ranch rd is now open. Thank you county road crew!
Still a dead end road, still closed 17 miles from Ettersburg Junction by Honeydew Creek.
Any word on the Wild Cat, a neighbor said it was blocked. Hoping to confirm.
Thanks so much for the info. Re Eel Ruver Drive at mm 1.0. If anyone knows is that the same closure due the culvert failing two weeks ago between Loleta and Fernbridge, or a new one?
Thanks for any info.
Snow melt + rain = some big water flows.
whoa…Where is this?
Great shot: thanks!
We just came back from Gville. SFER was at monitor stage and looking rambunctious. The river is bank to bank, carrying entire trees and big logs, and all the creeks have their mouths well submerged and water back-swirling, meaning the volume and swiftness of current of the river is keeping the water in the tributaries.
Thank you. I was wondering what the river looked like.
Made it on 36 from I5 to 101 in a Grand Caravan about an hour ago with no problems. There was some road work in a couple of places but no long waits. There is, however, a big crack all the way across the road about 50 or so miles up from the 101. Don’t know how long 36 will be passable with the crack, so please check before you use it! Kudos to the road crews; they were doing a great job!
Van Duzen River decided to take the road back.
Botz, where is that?
Van Duzen Rd at Browns Canyon where the river started undermining
Thank you.
The river is way above the Monitor Stage on the gauge at the Phillipsville/Ave of the Giants exit in SoHum, in front of the old Slyvandale’s store.
