Battered by heavy wind and rains, the Emerald Counties should expect more of the same but less intensely as wet weather continues today.

According to the National Weather Service, “A line of T-storms is moving towards the N. Humboldt & Del Norte coast. Sporadic lightning/gusty winds expected near coast” about 3:15 p.m.

In addition, the National Weather Service predicts that today will be windy and tomorrow will be windier. However, later today and throughout the night expect heavy rains.

According to the National Weather Service, the Eel River has passed the flood stage at Fernbridge. But the waters are expected to recede later today (though they are predicted to rise over flood stage again on Wednesday). Because of this, according to the Weather Service, “[T]he western half of the Eel Delta may be completely flooded, especially if at or above this level for an extended period of time. This includes areas northwest of Loleta and the western portion of Cannibal Island Road.”

Nice update. Thank you. We had some lightning and thunder this morning at about 8am in Eureka.

This calls for a new Hip Hop Nursery Rhyme:

Redwood Giants falling down, falling down, falling down
Redwood Giants falling down, my fair weather

Smash, crash, there goes the Cadillac
Smush, crush, may it miss the school bus

Redwood Giants falling down, falling down, falling down
Redwood Giants falling down, my fair weather

With big winds after all this rain
the ground so muddy, mother nature to blame

Redwood Giants falling down, falling down, falling down
Redwood Giants falling down, my fair weather

Poor tree. The ground is paved all around where it stood, up to the church and including the intersection to the right of the photo. Looked pretty healthy, didn’t it?
At least damage otherwise was minimal.
