Sean Blackmon: From Crime to Conviction to Life in Prison
On August 14, 2015, we scrambled to the respond to the report of an armed home invasion. Oliver Cory, our photographer at the time, reached the scene as officers were putting the suspect, Sean Blackmon, into the vehicle and managing to catch the intriguing image above.
The District Attorney’s office described the crime this way:
The two victims came home from lunch and found Mr. Blackmon burglarizing their home. Using a shotgun belonging to one of the victims, Mr. Blackmon directed both men around the house and in through the back door. He proceeded to separate them and tie them up in different rooms using rope and a phone charging cable. While they were tied up, Mr. Blackmon continued to rummage through the house.
The victims were able to free themselves and escape unharmed. As they fled the residence, they flagged down a driver on Buhne Street, who called the police. The police responded just as Mr. Blackmon was stealing a car belonging to the victims. He then led the police on a high-speed chase through Eureka which ended when he crashed into a brick wall near the intersection of Everding and S streets, and was detained by the Eureka Police a few minutes later.
In September, Blackmon was convicted. The DA’s Office put out a press release stating that he was found guilty on…
…two counts of kidnapping to commit robbery, two counts of robbery, two counts of assault with a firearm, one count of burglary, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The jury also found true the special allegation that he personally used a firearm.
Then yesterday, he was sentenced. Here is the press release from the District Attorney’s Office:
On September 30, 2016, a Humboldt County jury found 42-year-old Sean Blackmon guilty of: kidnapping to commit robbery (2 counts), robbery (2 counts), assault with a deadly weapon (2 counts), residential burglary and felon in possession of a firearm. On December 16, 2016, Judge Timothy Cissna sentenced Blackmon to both 32 years and life in prison. Mr. Blackmon must serve 51 years before he will be eligible for parole.

Good riddance!
Is his name Blackmon? Or did the 911 call just say they came home to find black man robbing their house? 😉
No.
So, 3-4 years in SHU then off to UC Berkeley?
Can you read 51 years before eligibility for parol
Wtf are you talking about?
Great job EPD & the DA!
Finally. Good job Judge Cissna…
a sentence that makes some sense bye bye asshole
Bury him!
He should have tried out for a part in a Batman flick.
Bet he’s a Republican.
Actually didn’t this happen around the time of the post-election Hillary “rallies”?
Happened before the election, if you can read. Trumpsters in the dumpster.
One scum down And many thousands to go. Hats off to the Eureka police and the Eureka judicial system.
Was he homeless?
He won’t be once he’s assgned a cell.
Thank you, judge Cissna. At last some good news. A few hundred more appropriate sentences for the criminals, gangstas, druggies, and assorted other riffraff that infest our beautiful county and maybe it will stand a chance of being a decent home for decent working people.
Enjoy the rest of you life asshole. I hope it is a long one.
Not me that gets expensive
Yes and taking care of his sick wife trying to get us off the street and it seemed like everything was against us he only did this out of desperation and hardships he did it out of love to get me out the street I still and always will love this man and the day he did what he did I died because I lost him I’m just now getting on my feet I’m not homeless anymore and that’s what worries him me being sick and homeless some times I still don’t think I’ll make it without him he is my rock the love of my life i will always be there for him I will always be his wife and friend…..I love you Sean 4 life and after death…
Yeah let’s see what comes of that case from benbow that cat did way worse and will probably get probation or some small ass amount of time.
Cat?
Lots of mountain lions around there!
Mr Guest’s slang appears to be about 60 years past its sell-by date. Serious penalties may apply, daddy-o.
LOL!!
No one could steer him right but Mama tried.
I’ve had to usher him off property before,he was very scary, and threatened me all the time.made a point of teasing me off the property.im glad he can’t harm anyone else.
So this guy robs a house and gets life in prison. .Marci kichen kills two kids and is walking the streets! !!!
So much makes no sense, until you include the money factor ! 😠
You mean Ben okin and all his blood money for letting killers walk free….
Every person deserves an attorney that will work hard to set them free. As long as we have an adversarial system of criminal justice, we need and should respect the attorneys like Mr. Okin who do their job and do it well.
Thank you Judge Cissna!!! Finally a sentence worthy of the crime. We now have a few others that need stiff justice…..Kade Chandler (DUI gross vehicular manslaughter X2) Marcie Kitchen (DUI gross vehicular manslaughter X2) These 5 wanna be thugs whom just murdered a 20 year old man last week and The DUI driver that just left Central Station and mowed down a innocent 16 year old girl walking along the sidewalk. PLEASE START MAKING THE PUBLIC KNOW THAT HUMBOLDT IS TIRED OF THIS SELFISH BS AND THROW THE BOOK AT THESE PEOPLE AND MAYBE JUST MAYBE IT WILL MAKE SOME STOP AND THINK BEFORE MAKING THESE F’D UP CHOICES!
What tge f!#!? So the victims didnt die? I understand the severity of it all but he gets life when that piece of shit skylar nemitz executes his wife and gets manslaughter? Justice is so blind. And like karma is going to do anything about it either.
Thank you….
He didn’t hurt them what kind of message is being put if you break in a house out of desperation and somebody comes if you don’t hurt them you go to prison for life so the next person that breaks won’t won’t leave any witnesses and more than likely won’t get life
