Video Helps Identify Stabbing Suspect, Says APD
This is a press release from the Arcata Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On 12/16/16 at about 1424 hours, the Arcata Police Department received a report of a stabbing victim in the area of Samoa Bl and H St. Upon the officer’s arrival, they located a 44-year-old male with multiple stab wounds to his back and upper chest. The officers began administering first aid to the male victim until the arrival of emergency medical staff.
Due to the victim’s injuries, the officers were unable to get much information from him on what had occurred. The officers began checking the immediate area for witnesses and evidence. An officer noticed that a nearby business had a video camera facing the area where the victim was located. Upon review of the video, the officers could see the suspect stab the victim. The suspect was identified as Jessica Vaverka (28) of Arcata.
Vaverka was on-scene and had initially identified herself as the victim’s girlfriend. She was taken into custody without incident. Vaverka was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility, where she was booked for 664/187 PC, attempted homicide and 1203.2 PC, probation violation.
The victim was admitted to the hospital and is listed in stable, but guarded condition.
Any witnesses to the incident are encouraged to contact the Arcata Police Department.

And on,and on and on
A girl this time that’s about the only thing different….
When are these young people going to start thinking about consequences before doing such terrible stuff to other people. It is at an epidemic state with all the violence and murders lately and has been building for a while. The ages are young people. So sad. We need to pray for our youth and young people. There is a bunch of evil stuff they are getting into out there.
No disrespect intended “humanityfirst”, but I believe when you really want to stab somebody, consequences are never considered. It’s more of a feeling “I don’t care what happens, I want to stab this mother fucker!”
All the time I feel like punching people I the face. When they just annoy me, or say stupid things. I don’t actually do it because I consider the consequences. If on the other hand I felt like STABBING them, I would probably just do it. Luckily for me (and them), I don’t ever feel like stabbing anybody. I feel like my feelings on this issue are somewhat universal to all humans. I could be wrong.
Maybe when there is actually consequences.
They are going to throw the book at this young lady ! I hope the young men will be OK . I don’t know what’s going on out there but people need to realize the prison waits for them .
He could be a serial killer? You never would know.
It’s so weird how many people think this type of violence is just now getting worse. Northern California especially in Humboldt and Eureka specifically has been an unsafe city as far back when I got here 12 years ago. It was number 2 on the most dangerous/most violent places to live. Don’t do the crime if you don’t want the time. Duh.
Maybe she was defending herself? I don’t know what happened. Not defending I just want to point out that news is the weakest link to a productive society. The very brief facts and all of a sudden everyone has an opinion based on inaccurate or insufficient information to decide on the truth as if they were there, saw the whole thing and know all the background history of everyone involved. Gg humans.
