[UPDATE 7:45 a.m.] Flood Watch
According to the Humboldt Office of Emergency Services:
The Van Duzen River is currently projected to reach Flood Stage tomorrow morning [Thursday, December 15] around 8, and the Eel River is projected to exceed Flood Stage at Fernbridge around 4pm tomorrow (Thursday).
At the anticipated levels, river flood impacts would primarily be to roads and low-lying farm land in the Eel River Delta. Ranchers are moving livestock to higher ground as needed.
The Mad River and the South Fork of the Eel are forecast to exceed Monitor Stage, but not to flood.
River forecasts can change quickly. Keep an eye on the CNRFC and the County OES Facebook page for updates.
UPDATE 7:45 a.m.: The US National Weather Service stated,
According to the California Nevada River Forecast Center, the only Mendocino River projected to flood is the Navarro. It should flood a little before 4 p.m. and crest by 9 p.m. No Del Norte or Trinity County rivers are expected to reach flood stage during this rain event.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for Humboldt, Trinity, and Mendocino Counties until 4am Friday morning. The watch for Del Norte County will expire at 10am Thursday morning. Several rivers are forecast to reach flood stage tonight; including the Eel River at Fern Bridge, which is expected to crest just above 20 feet. In addition, the Navarro River is forecast to crest just shy of moderate flood stage. The Van Duzen River near Bridgeville is also forecast to briefly reach minor flood stage Thursday morning.

The Smith river is out of its banks and flooding on the roadway in multiple areas. That’s why I’m awake now. Waiting for the call to get out and head to higher ground.
