APD Throws the Book at Alleged Car Burglar on Probation
This is a press release from the Arcata Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On 12/13/2016 at about 10:30pm, officers from the Arcata Police Department responded to the 900 block of 8th Street on the report of a vehicle burglary in progress.
Officers arrived on scene and observed an adult male subject running from the area and detained him. Officers quickly located a stash of property in the area that the suspect was seen running from. An officer contacted the citizen who reported the incident and they positively identified Jeremy Todd Butler (age 40) from Arcata as the suspect.
The owner of the vehicle was contacted and he identified the property found by officers as having been inside his truck.
Butler was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked and lodged on the following charges:
- PC 487 – Grand Theft
- PC 485 – Misappropriation of Found Property
- PC 22810(b) – Felon in Possession of Pepper Spray
- H&S 11350 – Possession of a Narcotic
- H&S 11364 – Possession of Paraphernalia
- CVC 10852 – Tampering with a Vehicle
- PC 1203.2 – Violation of probation.
It was subsequently found that Butler, who is on probation, also had four warrants for his arrest.
The Arcata Police Department would like to thank the watchful citizen who’s quick thinking led to the apprehension of the suspect and the return of the victim’s property.
Anybody observing suspicious activity in their neighborhood is encouraged to immediately contact the Arcata Police Department.

Hmmmm. Released OR yet? Handsome boy…
He’s safe and warm in his tent, spoon and lighter in hand. Gotta luv humboldt! No addict is deprived of their rights. Only the law abiding people must pay. Seems fair.
You left the identical post on LoCo. Is he, in fact, on the street again?
Yes, tweakers, we’ll give you free medical care including pain management, money to go to college, welfare if you have a kid, killer housing down under the bridge, shelters when the weather gets bad, plenty of support from the bleeding hearts, and if you run short of a fix, just break into some cars for the change in the ashtray… No problem. Police arrest you on multiple felonies? Serve some time in the SHU and then later you can get into UC Berkeley after reading the prison library… What a great State!
Its hard to tell if you are being ironic or you really think that these things make for a good life.
We need to bring back prison camps and make these POS do some months of hard labor, instead of a booking photo, a little Internet shaming and then back on the streets to thieve and rob the rest of us…..again and again.
He’s pretty inconspicuous.
“APD Throws The Book”, too funny. It’s sad when these repeat criminals get the charges they deserve and we call it “throwing the book at them”.
New Orleans, at least at one point, had a tent city style jail. Thats what Humboldt needs. No reason to build a nice facility to house them. Throw up some fences, razor wire and army tents. No need for guards on the inside. Food truck shows up 3 times a day. Put their asses to work. There is plenty of work to be done. The work doesn’t always need to be weed whacking and mowing. There is trash, graffiti, and bum camps to clean up. At what point do we wake up and deal with the problem at hand? We are way too lenient on these parasites. The ones that truly want to get there shit together, will. The rest can stay in tent city, working.
Great idea actually.
You mean they can stay in the tent city and be raped and murdered. That is what would happen without guards.
Thats what comes to mind for you? hmm
so whats he crying about ?
hopefully the book hit him in the head
Why are my comments being censored? Get this thug off the street [edit]
I really despise the tear drop tattoos. They are meant to be a frightening message. I think they should be targets.
I swear,no one learns when they go to jail.Stop the insanity.you know it’s not hard to be a good person!please everyone do a good deed,or something kind for someone today,or this holiday.show someone kindness.ITS FREE
What is really sad, is this is my son’s father. He had so much potential and had a spark for life you would never imagine. He wasn’t always this sad wretch. I’ve known him since he was 15 and he threw his entire life away chasing his demons. I haven’t seen or spoken to him in over 10 years and I was shocked to see his mug shot. He looks totally different and if I saw him on the street, I wouldn’t recognize him.
