Early this afternoon, Eureka Police surrounded a home where a burglar was allegedly inside. The residence was located near the intersection of 17th and L Streets. Eureka Police requested backup from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office about 12:40 p.m. Fortuna Police also responded with a K-9 team.

The 16-year-old male juvenile was eventually located “hiding in a dryer,” according to a tweet by Chief Andrew Mills.

Stormy Taylor, a witness who provided us these photos from the scene tells us that the juvenile fought law enforcement as he was being taken from the home.

Later, Chief Mills told John Chiv, that the juvenile had a gun. Mills tweeted a photo of the gun and stated that the burglar arrest removed one more gun from the street.

This is a commonly held, but factually inaccurate claim.

There is an excellent article that explains several ways that criminals get guns, here is a small excerpt and link to the article.

Ask a cop on the beat how criminals get guns and you’re likely to hear this hard boiled response: “They steal them.” But this street wisdom is wrong, according to one frustrated Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) agent who is tired of battling this popular misconception. An expert on crime gun patterns, ATF agent Jay Wachtel says that most guns used in crimes are not stolen out of private gun owners’ homes and cars. “Stolen guns account for only about 10% to 15% of guns used in crimes,” Wachtel said. Because when they want guns they want them immediately the wait is usually too long for a weapon to be stolen and find its way to a criminal.

In fact, there are a number of sources that allow guns to fall into the wrong hands, with gun thefts at the bottom of the list. Wachtel says one of the most common ways criminals get guns is through straw purchase sales. A straw purchase occurs when someone who may not legally acquire a firearm, or who wants to do so anonymously, has a companion buy it on their behalf. According to a 1994 ATF study on “Sources of Crime Guns in Southern California,” many straw purchases are conducted in an openly “suggestive” manner where two people walk into a gun store, one selects a firearm, and then the other uses identification for the purchase and pays for the gun. Or, several underage people walk into a store and an adult with them makes the purchases. Both of these are illegal activities.

Bullshit article! Most guns are stolen or bought from people who either are in the business of selling stolen guns after they have bought them on the black market or people who steal guns for a living. The man who wrote this article is also a teacher from a California State college if that brings to mind Libtard people who want to change our Constitution and also to sell their own books…..I agree with gun checks and waiting periods because they give our Government time to see if the people buying them are felons, but again the problem is no one checks or follows up on the background checks. California already has more gun laws than it can enforce. All the new laws do is make it harder for law abiding citizens to purchase guns and ammo. California has taken the 2nd amendment and turned it into a joke! It will take years but the new California Safe family act will be overturned by our New Supreme Court and Gavin Newsom (the wife beater) will go off into the sunset another rich politically corrupt individual. The new law has also made criminals out of law abiding citizens who have defended our Constitution! What kind of law is that???

Took the words right out of my mouth. I don’t have to read the article to assure you it is wrong. Guns are bought, illegally for sure, but from someone who stole them.
