Press release from Humboldt Bay Fire:

On November 6, 2016 at approximately 2:53PM Humboldt Bay Fire responded to a 2 alarm residential structure fire in the 400 block of T Street. Three fire engines, one ladder truck, one squad, two chief officers and 3 fire support volunteers responded. Upon response from their station the first arriving crew reported gray smoke in the area of 4th and T. On arrival, heavy flames were seen coming from the front of the two story residential structure. A second alarm for additional personnel was struck due to the large volume of fire. As engines and the truck company arrived units were assigned to extinguish the fire, ventilate, and search for any trapped occupants. No occupants were located. The fire was knocked down in approximately 20 minutes, with full extinguishment and overhaul taking approximately two hours.

Power to the area was affected during the fire, PG and E was notified and restored power after they were able to access the lines.

The preliminary fire investigation indicates this is a suspicious, human caused fire and that the residence was uninhabited. A full investigation is ongoing.

Arcata Fire Protection provided coverage for Humboldt Bay jurisdiction during the fire in addition to a battalion chief and a scribe that responded to the scene.

Please report suspicious activity around or inside vacant or boarded up structures to law enforcement by calling 911. Helpful information to note for law enforcement is a description of the person(s), vehicle license plates and a vehicle description as well as the circumstances that make the situation suspicious.

With the lower temperatures, check your homes heating systems before use.

We know that you changed the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors with the time change, but if you didn’t please do so now!

So I heard a rumor that someone called the cops about squatters at the location, but they were too busy putting placards on potential crime victims cars.

I think a separate post with the ‘good advice’ would be a good thing. Not everybody will read this entire post and if it helps only a few people, it would be a good thing…
