Massive Cyber Attack Cripples Large Internet Sites
Having problems reaching your favorite internet sites today? You’re not alone.
Two massive denial of service attacks focused on Dyn, a company which provides access to multiple websites, knocked out Twitter, Reddit, Soundcloud and numerous other internet giants this morning.
A denial of service attack is a deliberate attempt to cripple an internet business by contacting it repeatedly with useless information. This makes the site unable to respond to legitimate customers.
Although this attack mainly affected internet users in the eastern United States, many users worldwide have been affected. While many of the sites are back up, others including the popular Tweetdeck are still inaccessible.
At 10:53 a.m., Dyn posted, “Our engineers continue to investigate and mitigate several attacks aimed against the Dyn Managed DNS infrastructure.”
