We Caught the Burglar and We’re Going to Catch His Accomplices, Says HCSO

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

McDonaldOn 10/10/2016 at 9:45 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to Dazey’s Supply, 3082 Redwood Drive, Redway, to investigate the report of a commercial burglary.

Upon arrival, Deputies spoke to a store employee who reported that someone had burglarized the store’s warehouse sometime during the night. There was evidence of forced entry into the warehouse and several thousand dollars worth of merchandise was stolen. Upon reviewing the store’s surveillance cameras, Deputies recognized the suspect and positively identified him as Levi Andrew McDonald (age 30).

On 10/12/2016 at 2:59 p.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant was patrolling in the 500 block of Empire Avenue, Redway. The Sergeant observed McDonald attempting to flee through the Melody Trailer Park, 3220 Redwood Drive. After a brief foot pursuit, the Sergeant was able to take McDonald into custody.

McDonald was subsequently transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for burglary and vandalism.

Deputies are continuing to follow up on investigative leads for this case. At least one other suspect has been identified as a person of interest in assisting McDonald during the commission of the burglary. It is also believed that a third suspect knowingly accepted the stolen merchandise after the burglary was committed. Warrant requests for their arrest(s) will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office. The identities of these suspects will be withheld until warrants have been issued.

Anyone with information for the Sheriff’s Office regarding this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 707-445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Garberville Station at 707-923-2761.

Dan, while your so busy trying to convince us that you can accurately judge someone’s intelligence without even knowing them, you should at least make sure that what you put down doesn’t make you sound like a buffoon.

“he’s eems” and all of the punctuation marks, including the unnecessary apostrophe, suggest you’re not even at the level you are placing this individual at.

Thanks for your input anyway!

All through school, my second worst grades were always in English. Never got the whole “dangling participle” thing as well as most of the other silly rules.

My worst grades…citizenship!

He is the biggest thief in town! Why the hell is he still on the street? He only shoplifted us once. (that we know of) We caught him on camera. He lied and denied, got mad a threw his messy drink on our windows, the next day he brought the item back and slammed it on our counter and walked out. I guess that he heard about my “A grudge worth having is worth holding. Always get even” policy.

We caught him behind the building across the street, looking for a place to go to the bathroom. the owner and I told him that was not the place to go to the bathroom and that he should try the service station across Redwood Drive. He said that he was kicked out. We said “You made your bed, now sleep in it” As he was waking away he messed his pants, BIGGG TIME. I guess that’s one way of sleeping in it.

Every merchant in town has kicked him out for thieving. It seems to me like it must be time for a new town to adopt him. Surely there is some town hasn’t heard of him yet, willing to take him in, tell him about his rights and tell him where to get free lunches, tell him where to sell his stolen goods.

I am sooooo sick and tired of the County being unable to do something about this criminal society that we have preying on our otherwise fine community.

Wow, cuz that’s what a “liberal utopia” is, right? A crime-infested cesspool, every liberal’s dream! What a stupid-ass thing to say. Liberals want NO crime, just like conservatives, only difference is, liberals use their BRAINS while thinking about other people, conservatives use their GUT while thinking only about themselves.

What would people want to steal around there?
Nothing but Chinese trinkets and plastic junk. People risk everything over overseas garbage?

He got tackled by Richard at tsunami also made front page of redwood times photo pinned to ground, wow. And no one likes a snitch, not even the police. Whoever bought that shit from him is probably scrambling to sell it off out of the area, or find someone who will. Glad to hear communication is proving to be affective in warding off the thieves. Proactive community actions will become so known in the network of things, that eventually there will be enough humiliation and disgrace, publicly posted exposure to their crimes, and being banned from every store in town, so those who set out with the intention of conducting in these behaviors will decide so hum has developed a reputation for its intolerance to their kind and it’s the entire community saying NO MORE !!!

Because Taxation is Theft and Brown passed a bill allowing incarcerated thieves to vote.
They needed to catch him again in time for elections.

Why is Taxation Theft? Why did you decide to capitalize both words? Why did you start a sentence with ‘because’? What earlier post are you responding to?

Why is it theft? The funds are never used as promised. Why capitalize? It is a title, a headline, of a main catch phrase used by those who wish to bring attention to the issue of thoughtless plundering. Why did I start with because? I was responding to Ernie, but the reply button didn’t catch that. What previous post? Ernie’s.

Why is it that this form of modern day tar and feathering, is deemed ok in this community?? People are tried and sentenced in the local media, before they are even arraigned and brought before a jury of their peers to face prosecution! What happened to presumed innocent before being found guilty?? How are these people supposed to get jobs or public support, when they try and succeed in their efforts to turn their lives around?? The answer is they can’t, because they are now deemed marked individuals, who have unfairly had their names and image plastered all over our top media outlets for substance abuse issues and property crime!! The truth is, the crimes they are accused of wouldn’t even receive mention in a larger communities media outlets. However here in sleepy hollow, Mayberry, it’s breaking front page news???!!! So, I ask you people to take a look in the mirror and ask yourselves, am I part of the problem or part of the solution?? All the businesses that codone and participate in the plastering of photos of locals suspected of stealing. Do you enjoy harassing the local petty thieves and ruining their chances at a future here in Southern Humboldt?? Just to be perfectly clear, I do not condone or approve of stealing of any kind. I think people that steal should be punished. But I also think the punishment should always fit the crime!! Plastering their image all over town is not the answer!! Making help more available is!!!

Here here! There can be a real vigilante mindset in So Hum.
This guy sounds, like from reliable people like Ernie, to be a serious offender. And I sympathize with business owners. I do. Yet…..
‘Guilty until proven innocent’ all too often the case. If I see posters around town with someone’s photo and accusatory language I TEAR IT DOWN. No matter how bad the accusations are, there are better options than, among other things, encouraging vigilante ‘justice’.
Lotta folks wanna see us like the wild west. And in some ‘outlaw’, ‘victimless’ ways we are. Yet, lest you or someone is in imminent danger, let’s not take justice into our own hands, no matter what!

Well, when law enforcement can’t arrest people because of prop 47, or won’t arrest them because it would take a deputy away from our area, them the local businesses and such are forced to take matters into their own hands. Do you think the we like spending time policing thieves constantly? Definitely not, that is not what any business here is about. But the justice system has failed to protect the victims. So the victims are standing together to protect themselves. Is that simple. Posting pictures and information about chronic thieves is not how we want to spend our time. But we have been left no choice.

I hear your frustration. I sense that you want to solve the problem.
Since the focus of your efforts sounds to be the business community, might you pass a photo/info among businesses, possibly giving them a copy to keep on hand for reference, rather than posting them on-line or in public places?
And, do the common signs, ‘we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone’ help in asking certain people to leave a business?
Might the organization ‘Chill’ or the ‘Southern Humboldt Mediators’ groups be of any help?
Does the man in question (and others) have family to appeal to? (One earlier comment, that, ‘he was such a smart kid’ leads me to believe he’s from around here).
Are there church people to ask for help?
If an offender is on drugs, how might we find ways to help them?
I am not in your shoes. Neither of us is in an offenders shoes. Can we solve the problem AND use compassion?

Pretty funny. While you are championing him he would be stealing everything he could from you. We aren’t supposed to be made aware of who to look out for?? I’m pretty sure that it is against the law for a business to post a Persona Non Grata picture for the public to see in their business , though.

What about the common signs that say, ‘We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone’. Doesn’t that empower business owners?
What is he stealing for? Drugs? Food? Comfort? Attention? Just ’cause he is an SOB?
See my reply above.
