UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: According to a tweet by Redwood National and State Parks, “Because of winds and debris, we don’t expect the Newton B Drury parkway to be open this weekend. Prairie Creek Visitor Center will be open.”

Looks as though that tree’s root-wad had rotted out,
was it a dead tree?

The Parkway is the old route HWY 101 that starts at the bottom of the NBD bypass.

Lots of wind in that region, a weird microclimate too…….low land gulleys to steep vertical rises in elevation.
