Harry Potter for Humboldt

Press release from the Eureka Library:

The Eureka Library will be hosting a Harry Potter-themed celebration for children, teens, and their families at the end of October.

Leading up to the event, there will be showings of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 12 p.m. and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 12 p.m. Both movies will be shown in the library’s large meeting room, off of the front lobby.

In addition, a S.P.E.W.-themed knitting class will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Hermione learned to knit in order to benefit the House Elves, and so can you! The class will be taught by Sunni, the owner of Yarn in Henderson Center. Yarn will be provided; however, knitting needles are limited so please bring your own size 9, 10 or 10.5 needles. Class size is limited to 10 participants ages 10-16, so please call the library at 707-269-1915 to reserve your spot.

The culminating event is the Harry Potter Celebration that will take place from 12 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 29, 2016. Come get sorted into a House, make your own wand, and receive a dragon’s egg from Hagrid! Embark on a Harry Potter themed scavenger hunt, or Transfigure yourself using props in the photo booth.  Humboldt State University’s Chemistry Club will be hosting Potions demonstrations throughout the afternoon. Finally, test your luck (no Felix Felicis potions allowed!) in the Goblet of Fire raffle, with prizes donated by a number of local businesses.

Want your Harry Potter-themed art displayed at the event? Submit it to the library! All artwork must be an original creation, PG-rated, two-dimensional and no larger than 16-by-20 inches. Please submit all artwork and a completed submission form to the Circulation desk at the library no later than 4 p.m. on Oct. 22.

All events are free to attend. The library’s programs and services are accessible to persons with disabilities; please let us know if you require assistance. The Humboldt County Library is located at 1313 Third St. in Eureka. For further information, call 707-269-1910 or visit our website at www.humlib.org.

Come celebrate the magic of Harry Potter with the Eureka Library!
