[Located!] $3000 Reward for Dog Last Seen in Arcata
This Shih Tzu was lost at the Collier rest area off of Hwy 96 on September 20. Wally was “last seen in Arcata Park…being given to a man,” reports the owner Jayne Sigman. Can you keep a lookout for the little dog?
Sigman is offering a $3000 reward for the dog’s return. Call (805) 450-4444 if you have any information.
UPDATE 2:12 p.m.: Note: in the comments the owner says Wally has been located! Click here for further information.

This post hurts my mindbrain. Last seen in Arcata or the rest stop?
Agreed,

Response:
1)Dog disappears from owners off HWY96.
2) last seen in Arcata.
Who “last seen” the dog giving it to a man (color, age, description, etc…?)
Two Sundays ago, HOJ met an elderly man with a schitzu on the Hammond Trail…..it looked like the dog was confused with the man……ya never know with a story so short on info…….
There’s a Randolph C. Collier Rest Area at the south end of the tunnel, just south of Oregon on Highway 199 between Crescent City and Grants Pass. And Arcata is nowhere near Mt Shasta… who knows where this dog is.. oops, just discovered it’s the Collier Tunnel Rest Area. Still, nowhere near Arcata.
Hello folks the Dog is Microchipped… Your welcome, Some days are better than others..
Really, I’m confused. What’s poor Wally’s navigational story & how does the microchip work (or not work as this case implies)? I hope it turns out good for Wally & his owners. Taking animals is a low blow.
How did hippies manage to rip the dog?
People just cut those microchip out of expensive dogs.
The real story is about the hippies doing dog theft. Please tell more about these hippies.
It is not easy to cut a microchip out of a dog. They are the size of a grain of rice, and the microchip reader does not show the exact location of the chip under the dog’s skin. Sometimes they can be felt under the skin, but not always. It takes anesthesia and surgery to find and remove them.
Dog rippers remove them all the time.
Surgical markings devalue show dogs, but the black market runs on them.
Besides, microchipping anything living is wrong.
Let’s hear more about dog ripping Neo Hippies that grab abandoned dogs in rest stops.
The REAL story is there…
Did they rip digs for weed or meth, growers buying dogs for profit, etc.
The real story is in the rippers, not people that abandon dogs in rest stops.
Keep us posted!
This is a lost dog notice not a full blown article. (I only have so much time and can’t devote full attention to these.) However, according to a post on Facebook, the people who found the dog at the rest stop took it to Arcata where they gave it to someone.
What’s the point of chipping a dog then?
The point is that the owners can notify vet clinics, shelters and rescue operations and post notices on the internet and should a “new” animal that matches the missing pooch’s description show up, best case scenario is they can scan for a chip — and hopefully get hold of the owners. If, that is, whoever now has the dog has an honest conscience and lets someone know how it came to be in their hands.
Hope the little one makes it home.
When a dog is found by anyone, they can take it to a vet and the chip gives information that allows the owner to be located.
I think this dog is currently in Arcata. I saw it with a traveler on the Plaza and I noticed because he’s not the usual breed of dog for travelers to have.
