About 4:30 p.m. near the Patriot Gas on Broadway, a man phoned into 911 requesting assistance. He said he was suicidal and he heard voices telling him to walk into traffic.

Eureka Police searched the subject and took him Sempervirens.

Thank you Kym. Talking about this problem over and over again is our only hope at changing things. We can’t sweep it under the rug, it’s time to figure out how to be more helpful when people truely need help and support.

Who pays for the sempervirens services?

What is the gender percentage of “enrollment, those admitted”?

What percentage of admitted only made up bullshit to get off the streets into a “shelter”?

Serious questions of data deserve a valid response…….

In macktown early this week, a mother fucker in his twenties(early 30’s) was harassing vehicles, cursing at drivers….cunt, bitch, asshole, whore, fucker, etc….then a neighbor was told “fuck you” from across the street while onlooking…..the guy was disturbing the peace…….a few minutes later, sirens…….[edit]

September is suicide prevention month, ALL MONTH LONG! To bring awareness to the stigma of mental health and suicide.
Today, one less death.
He’s someone’s family.

The system will add more daily prescriptions and the side affects from big pharma will keep him in a down hill spiral. Many are not crazy and get thrown away and the remedy (prescriptions) cause suicidal behaviors.

I’m sorry, but as one that takes daily prescriptions, I am thankful for them. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder about 17 years ago and having it recognized and treated has made a major positive impact on myself as well as my family. Mental health needs to be pulled from the dark corners and is every bit as legitimate as physical health. Until that happens, broad, general, negative, hurtful, ignorant comments that serve no purpose other than to shame and stigmatize the person crying out for help nothing will change.

Thankyou. Pharmaceuticals have saved my life. To lump everything as bad just cuz it comes from a drug company is not helpful.

Then, take into account how cunning, shrewd and educated actors and actresses have become in making up bullshit to cover over some other aspect of life……bipolarism is tricky, no doubt, but pharma has never, ever created a cure for any person, just bandaids of different colors and sizes…..healing is subjective……

Like other areas of life, mental health as a reason or excuse for misbehavior is being hijacked by scammers too looking to use a falsified reason for personal protection purposes.

Guaranteed, HOJ can go to sempervirens and fake his way through however long a program is for treatment……and then fake again remission……faking occurs daily in America and the unsanctid institution preys off fakers for unconstitutional power tripping to grow the size of gubbamint.

Just wow! The ignorance and arrogance of that is astounding. I lived a lot of years with undiagnosed bipolar. The difference in quality of life between medicated and unmedicated is vastly different. For an uneducated person to make statements like the is irresponsible and dangerous. Using medication to treat a diagnosed chemical imbalance should not be shamed or ridiculed. People that are still new to their treatment can abandon it and be in worse shape than before. I just hope that no one is harmed by your words. I’m disgusted by your complete disregard for accepted medical intervention for people suffering from mental health issues. Mental health is every bit as legitimate as physical health, and to deny it is an uphill battle. You are part of the problem.

HOJ will have no reason to “fake” his way through Sempervirons. He will easily qualify for treatment. In fact, I recommend it.

I’m glad that he called 911 for help. All too often that doesn’t happen and things don’t end well.
I’m glad that they were able to take him to SV without incident.

Me too. I hope he’s able to find the right medication and life changes needed to be happy. I’m not a big fan of big pharma but not everyone’s brain can work right without help. Best wishes to this man, lots of people reading this article want you to feel better buddy.

It is way past time that issues such as mental illness, substance abuse, domestic violence, homelessness, etc. be addressed for the causes and not just the symptoms. Thank you Kym…. Lets heal our community from the ground up. And much Love to those responders who deal with these issues on a daily basis. And the families affected

I will continue to post about NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) every time there is another incident that comes to the public’s attention, about the people in our community, who struggle with challenges associated with neurologic disorders.

We have a local group, that meets at the FRC on the Redway School campus, Thursdays from 6-7:30pm. On October 6th, WE WILL NOT MEET, because we will be attending a NAMI fundraising dinner in Eureka. You may call Lea 707-845 3233, for more information, or questions.
The NAMI group is for family, and friends, of people with mental health challenges. All communication within the group is CONFIDENTIAL.
NAMI also works to educate, and destigmatize mental illness. Many of the same basic issues of mental illness, are shared with those who have diabetes, cancer, and heart disease; but mental illness carries a stigma that can hinder or prevent treatment.
Lea Nagy, comes down from Arcata weekly, with a wealth of information and personal knowledge, about our local systems of care. (Yes, we know mental health services are sadly lacking in many areas.)

I can see a joining together of many in our community, to compassionately address, many of the social challenges that we currently face.
I know that Lea has done police trainings, to help these first responders recognize, and appropriately assist people like the man in this story.
It is thanks to people like Lea Nagy, NAMI, and police/sheriff trainings, that this latest incident ended without bloodshed. Well done Officers!

HOJ-
Your anti medication rant finally sheds some light on your ridiculous comments! YOU NEED MEDS and to be blocked from making comments on this site.
[edit] Get a job and step away from the computer. You seem to have too much time on your hands.

For every “faker”, I’m sure there are 2 or 3 people refusing to seek help thanks in large part to the stigmas surrounding mental health treatment that are perpetuated by people like HOJ. Seriously. I don’t support a ban though, it’s important for decent people to realize there are still those who think like him in our community so that we can start making the necessary changes. Meet his foolishness with love/logic. It’ll drive him crazy.

Thanks Simone for your comment and your beautiful commitment to help our community understand and get support for those with mental illness. I am dedicated to help families and caregivers support our loved ones with mental illness, educate others, and advocate for those loved ones and reduce stigma and discrimination when it occurs. I encourage community members to attend our support group every Thursday at redway community resource center at redway school from 6 to 7:30. For more information just call me at 707 845-3233. Together we can
change perceptions, improve lives, and make a difference one person at a time!
