[UPDATE 6:34 p.m.] Fire at the Top of Thomas Road Above the School

A fire is burning about a mile west of the Salmon Creek Community School. According to a witness it is in grass and spreading quickly. As of 4:15 p.m, it was approximately a half acre.

UPDATE 6:34 p.m.: Helicopter and crews put out the fire. Inmate crews are currently mopping up.

The catalytic converter, which is part of the exhaust system under the car, is typically hot enough to start dry vegetation under the car on fire. It’s the likely source of ignition for fire in this incident. http://m.ocregister.com/articles/fire-227738-catalytic-converter.html

Always carry a fire extinguisher and if you drive a pick up always have a McLeod in the back.

Wet burlap is my personal favorite if only because it seems more efficient on small flame advances. That and my boots,…up to the point that they start melting.
