[UPDATE 7:10 p.m.: ‘All Mandatory Evacuation Orders Lifted] Tulley Fire: Day 3 (505 Acres Burned), ‘Largest Fire on the Yurok Reservation in About 20 Years’

Cal Fire heat map of the Tulley Incident. Information gathered at 10:51 p.m. August 24

The Tulley Fire threatens 40 structures north of Weitchpec. It has burned 505 acres and is about 8% contained, according to Cal Fire. As can be seen from the heat map there are hot spots spread throughout the interior of the fire perimeter. The area to the north has the most intense heat. Over 1400 Cal Fire personnel are at the scene either to fight the fire or to support the firefighters in some manner.

Residents of the area have been without power since the fire burned power poles the first evening.

Using the cooler night temperatures and greater humidity to their advantage, crews worked through the night to strengthen fire lines.

Yesterday, the Yurok Tribal Council declared a State of Emergency. This fire, they said, “is the largest fire on the Yurok Reservation in about 20 years.”

If you have Google Earth, you can download a 3D type heat map of the fire by clicking this link. (20160825_Tully_IR). This allows you to inspect the areas within the fire more closely. Please give it some time to download.

We’ll be following any new developments throughout the day on this post.
UPDATE 7 p.m.: Cal Fire reports that the fire is 505 acres and 20% contained. All mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted, according to Cal Fire.
