[REUNITED] This Dog Fell Out of a Truck; Is It Yours?

Found DogA reader in SoHum wrote us about 9 p.m. saying, “I just watched this dog fall out of the bed of someone’s truck.” The truck, she said, was was either a white Tacoma or a black Chevy. It was getting on the on ramp to Benbow going toward Garberville. “I don’t think they knew,” she said.

If you know this dog, please call Dahlia  at either 707-298-1806 or 707-223-6622.

UPDATE Friday: The dog has been reunited with its owner.

Yes, it is a law to restrain animals to prevent them from falling out of the vehicle. It’s too bad that many people choose to ignore this law because they think it won’t happen to them, because they, or their pets, are special. It’s the same story with the law against texting while driving, it’s for everyone else, not me!

The law you are referring to isn’t to protect the dog, but to protect the various agencies from having to clean up dead dogs that fell out of trucks from the roadway.

Black truck or maybe a white one? Ok, do “all trucks look grey in the dark” or what??

More likely, two trucks were in the immediate vicinity where the witness saw the dog fall, snarky pants.

I was on I-5, north of Sacramento. A pick-up truck was ahead of me with two unsecured, high-bred Weimaraners in the bed, shotgun on the rack inside. Something triggered the dogs. One went over the side, with the other an eye-blink behind.
I think it was the 2nd one that bounced up and hit my windshield, and the body of the 1st that almost put me off the Highway. Dumb Red Neck didn’t even know it….or did, and just didn’t stop. Ghastly.
Cross-tie your furry friends! af

When I was kid I saw a dog fall/jump out of the bed of a truck that was going by my house. The car behind it that hit the dog turned out to be the dogs other owner that was traveling with the truck. I hate seeing dogs in the bed of trucks!

“The truck, she said, was was either a white Tacoma or a black Chevy.” – So you watched this happen, but not sure if it was white or black? pretty big difference there. Did this happen at night or something?

Dogs untethered in trucks are bad enough. People who drive with barking dogs in the back of their trucks really piss me off. I know some of these people are new to the area and think it’s their own private Idaho, but let me tell you; when my dogs hear barking dogs driving past they take off running. Fortunately, we were able to afford to fence in several acres around our house, but that was after one a—hole hit and fatally injured one of our dogs who was just responding to another barking dog in the back of somebody’s truck.
