[9:17 p.m.] Topsy Turvey Toyota Blocks Briceland Road

Flipped Toyota

At approximately 7 p.m. a Toyota pickup flopped upside down in the middle of the Briceland Road near Shop Road about 1/2 mile east of Whitehorn junction on Shelter Cove Road. According to the California Highway Patrol Incident page, one way traffic control appears to still be in effect as of 9:10 p.m.

Kim Cabrera, a local tracker was one of the first on scene. She took photos and described the what happened. “We could not find the driver,” she said. “We even searched the brush on the side of the road in case they got ejected from the vehicle, but we found no one. Hard to believe someone walked away from this. It was crushed!”

Cabrera said that a passerby called 911 and then a volunteer firefighter and BLM ranger were the first responders to arrive. The California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire arrived on scene as she was leaving.

“This was interesting from a tracking perspective,” Cabrera said. “I’ve never had the opportunity to examine an accident scene and read the tracks there. It looked like one of the front tires went into the ditch and got stuck. Momentum carried the truck forward until it spun sideways, then flipped upside down. Must have been going really fast to do that.”

Had to get the weed and/or cash out of the truck. First things first. Secure the cash, then deal with the mess.

Does that truck actually look to you like it belonged to someone with a lot of cash on hand?

you would be surprised. I’m sure a lot of people around here drive beaters even though if they wanted to they could afford to own a Maserati. It’s called being incognito.

It seems almost every day these past couple of weeks there is an accident or violence. I hope all you local news people can get together and have a beer and a few laughs or a good feelings over SOMETHING in the near future. The stress of covering these things isn’t slight.

Thanks for what you do.

I hope that fleeing the scene, after creating an accident, carries stiffer penalties than DUI, and all the other probabilities of why someone would do this.

Seems to be the popular way to go around here. Accident while driving drunk? No problem. Just take off. Let somebody else figure things out and clean up the mess. Look how many people have gotten off with a slap on the wrist in the last few years.

Exactly,

Run and hide.

Just goes to prove what so many anti gubbamint people rationalize in a country of hipocrisy and useless laws that are not respected because punishment lacking is punishment not served is a green light to do whatever in a country where the injustice system NEVER RECALIBRATES but hey, new words in ink on paper making more rules people will scoff at is totally unamerican……it would be american to not make scoff laws, but again, all these unamerican illegals being trojan horsed into america makes matters worse, not better.

America, where diversity is a faux PC attempt to water down values and culture to create a “mess”. Immigration arguments are old and outdated and don’t apply any longer…….all the bullshitting is humorous though……immigration is not a guaranteed right if your an illegal culture crasher.

@simone – it doesn’t. Infact your better off to flee the scene if you are drunk.

It's time.

Not paying attention most likely, Did they move it a little or did it land perfectly in the middle of the road?

I think this actually happened right before Whitethorn Junction, not near Shop Road. There was another accident in the same spot on Wednesday evening. Possibly everyone needs to slow down a bit.

After reading your comment and looking at photo, I know this spot and there have been quite a few accidents on this spot over the years..I believe even one fatal one. There is a deep ditch and the slant of the road is awkward here and Ive always felt it needed to be corrected since other accidents…hope the driver is ok…

If the drivers either know this and do it anyway– or they don’t know this and do it because. (its an accident waiting to happen-‘) who needs to be informed or reminded or petitioned? Or is this a really dumb question and I.I.W.I.I
** it is what it is ** ?

Oh, just business as usual on Humboldts back roads, no big deal. This is the new norm, assholes speeding all over the road, wrecked cars everywhere, no accountability . Love all those new dually monster trucks and the people that can’t keep them in their own lane. It’s a bummer when you bought land way the hell down a back road to grow so you have to drive like a bat out of hell to get there and back. So sick of this shit.

Yes I agree, so glad this bit of carelessness didn’t involve anyone else driving home with children in the car…… I drive this road several times a week and it seems there is always someone wanting to race by me ( usually in a huge truck) even in the 25 mile an hour stretch thru Briceland. My life and our children’s lives are not worth their disrespect, this really needs to stop!

If grow stores kept 24/7 hours there wouldn’t be a need to rush.

Definitely hydro shops fault.

People are driving way too fast on shelter cove road. Big trucks trailing on your bumper when your already going fast. They can’t seem to wait for you to find a safe place to pull over. Eventually most will crash just hope not into someone else. Leave earlier people!
