[UPDATE 6:58 p.m.] Head-on Crash Partially Blocking Hwy 299; 5 Patients
A Scion and a Nissan pickup hit head-on about 6:28 p.m. not far west of Berry Summit at approximately 6:28 p.m. The two vehicles are partially blocking Hwy 299. Hoopa ambulance is already on scene with a patient being transported to the hospital. An ambulance from Arcata and a second ambulance from Hoopa are on their way.
“We have I believe five patients. No criticals,” reports the Incident Commander.
Traffic control is being set up.
UPDATE 6:58 p.m.: Arcata ambulance is being cancelled.

Hoping everyone is ok.
Not a place for a traffic collision
I was on 299 last night about that time. I must have just missed it. I do think that traffic was going a little fast and people were driving a little more wild than usual. The other thing I’m seeing — people are crossing the double yellow lines more than they used to. If you don’t know how to drive these roads, pay attention. When you do know how to drive these roads, look out for those who don’t!
