Stafford Fire: Not Completely Contained (Photos)
“We made progress overnight,” declared Cal Fire spokesperson Laura Coleman about the fire that began about 3 p.m Thursday near the Shively exit just north of Stafford. “Forward progress has stopped….[But] we’re not calling it completely contained yet.”
Coleman said that a large number of resources would continue to be directed at the Stafford Fire.
Yesterday, this reporter was given a tour by Battalion Chief Paul Savona who was looking at the possibility of arson. Multiple small fires lined northbound Hwy 101 when the first fire personnel arrived at the scene. This could be a sign of arson or an accidental event such as a chain dragging, Savona said.
Below are some of the photos from the fire.

Well it seems that the old growth, didn’t go up in flames .looks like leaf letter and slash brush .was on fire .which is good for the forest in, so many many ways .
Great pics Kym.
Thank you.
Yes, they are. Good work, Kym. OK for the forest if it stays low intensity and IN the forest. Not so good if it eats up your town in Lake County.
I live in Rio Dell. We drove by the mile long fire. I was afraid of the outcome. A HUGE thanks to all the firefighters, especially my middle stepson who may have been the first to call it in!
Just before midnight Saturday, the Incident Commander was “reminded” that the North Zone Coordination Center in Redding was going to be reassigning the hand-crew strike team(s) at Stafford to the new Clayton fire in Lake County. The IC didn’t sound particularly happy about it and replied simply, “I’ll place a phone call.”
