Lt. Dennis Young of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office confirmed an individual had been tased in Garberville today. The incident had not yet been written up by the officer involved but Young said that Sgt. Jesse Taylor had gone to “interview a pedestrian” earlier this afternoon.

Young said that during the course of the interview something occurred and Sgt. Taylor “deployed his taser.” It must have been something serious, Young said. “[Tasers are] usually only used when someone is in danger.”

At that point, an ambulance was called and the man was taken in “per department policy for medical clearance.” After he was cleared, the subject was arrested at approximately 3:30 p.m. and will be taken to Eureka to be booked.

We will update when we learn more.

For whatever reason, it’s a good thing the person was “tazed” and not shot dead. I’m thankful for that. af
