Shots fired at Union Street House Yesterday Lead EPD to Indoor Grow, Counterfeit Bills, and More

Eureka Police shot fired 7/28/16 This is a press release from the Eureka Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On July 27, 2016, at about 12:25 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to a residence on the 1600 block of Union Street for the report of shots fired. Multiple callers reported that a shot was fired and the suspect fled in a silver sedan.

Upon arrival, it was determined that a shot was fired into the front porch after a verbal dispute and there were no injuries. Officers set up a perimeter and called out the occupants from the house. 3 adults, 1 male and two females, and two children came out. The male resident, Joshua Buchanan, 29 of Eureka, was found to be on searchable probation.

Officers and detectives conducted a search of the home and located three firearms, a small marijuana grow, a large amount of counterfeit bills, heroin, and body armor. One of the three firearms, a loaded handgun, was confirmed stolen out of Arcata.

Buchanan was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, cultivating marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, and possession of concentrated cannabis.

Based on the investigation, it appears the suspect who shot into the ground is a roommate of Buchanan. The suspect’s identity is being held pending a warrant or arrest. This incident is being investigated as a negligent discharge of a firearm.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Eureka Police Department at (707) 441-4060.

I don’t know about California, but not all states empower their police to enforce federal law directly. It may just be they have contacted federal authorities who will determine whether to charge. In a somewhat interesting twist of history, the Secret Service is charged with enforcing counterfeiting laws.

Meanwhile I suspect he won’t be going anywhere for a while.

He’s going to have a long talk w/ the Secret Service about the counterfeit money. Will probably get in the most trouble for that.

Wow people still use mylar?

As to the money, you never know about people caught with counterfeit money. Some years ago a guy in Humboldt was arrested and later determined that the large quantity of cash he had was counterfeit. Several people in the community were saying “oh sh!t! I’ve done business with him a lot and I could have been getting fake cash the whole time!” He could be the source, or the recipient.

Hopefully his landlord didn’t get fake bills. They are some amazing people that don’t deserve that. That’s my old house. So sad.

All the numbers are different on the bills that can be seen.
I wonder since it was counterfeit, maybe they just destroyed it right after this picture in interest of public safety?
