Watchful Citizen Helps Catch Thief, Says APD

This is a press release from the Arcata Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

ArcataOn 7/15/2016 at about 8:50am, Officers from the Arcata Police Department responded to the 1000 block of K Street on the report of a possible vehicle theft in progress.

Upon arrival, officers were able to park within about ten of the suspect and observe him taking items from the vehicle and placing them into a bag at his feet. The suspect was immediately detained for investigation.  During a search of the vehicle for damage, it was found that the ignition wires had been pulled from the housing in an attempt to “hot wire” the vehicle.

The vehicle owner was located and advised of the incident.

The suspect, LOREN ALFRED WATERMAN (age 22) from Arcata, was taken into custody for PC 664/10851 – Attempted Stolen Vehicle, PC 488 – Theft, PC 594(b)(2) – Vandalism and PC 1203.2 – Violation of Probation.

Waterman was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked and lodged.

The Arcata Police Department would like to thank the watchful citizen whose diligence in this incident allowed law enforcement to take a thief off the streets and protect the property of our neighbors.
