Witness May Have Seen Vehicle Fleeing Last Night’s Fatal Hit and Run

According to Cy May, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol, a witness may have seen the vehicle responsible for last night’s deaths of two teenage girls in Fortuna. A witness in the area “shortly after the collision saw a vehicle turning onto Drake Hill Road with one headlight out,” May stated.

In addition, pieces of the vehicle left at the scene of the last night’s fatal collision on Eel River Drive in Fortuna are now indicating the model of Jeep which struck and killed two girls. According to May, the public should look for a newer model, light gray Jeep Wrangler with damage to its front end and possibly a damaged headlight also.

May also said that the investigation has not yet determined if the girls who were headed northbound on the rural road were skateboarding in the southbound lane or off to one side.

Or cal-trans cameras nearby?
The ones you can see in Cammed section on LOCO.

They could not have been hit unless they were IN THE STREET. Tragic but avoidable.

Are you familiar with that location? There is no shoulder. If they were walking or skating…they would have to be in the road. And properly facing oncoming traffic. Do not blame dead girls. This asshole RAN. What does THAT tell you?

Yes don’t blame the two young life’s we just lost. The driver should be facing two counts of vehicular manslaughter. And who ever yard it was found in should be facing two counts of harboring for hiding the jeep knowing that the law was looking for it. M.Bourne

The defender’s must be friends of the drivers, look pall the left the young ladies for dead. I don’t care he is guilty and needs his right taken away and GO TO JAIL……. And if he gets out his driving privileges should be taken away for life.

Yes, tragic, and avoidable BY THE DRIVER! Who is supposed to be in control of their vehicle and focused on driving. Not taking selfies, not updating Facebook, not sending text messages, not even looking at their cellphone.

That does not matter. At all. They could have been naked and high out of their minds and you still never run from an accident. Never.

Respectively, Please don’t go there…There are two families who’ve lost there children. They really don’t need to hear that this tragedy could have been avoided.

Really?? So if there where sidewalks the Jeep couldn’t of jumped the sidewalk or swerved off the shoulder? Ignorance is bliss. So sad that the girls lives are taken at a very young age and all you can say is it could of been avoidable. Pull your head out of your arse.

HOW WOULD U KNOW??? How dare you even say that. Um duh pedestrians ALWAYS HAVE THE RUGHT OF WAY!! You weren’t there so how can u even say stupid ignorant thing like that??????? That was completely avoidable regardless of if they were in the street or not. And btw it’s a wide enough street and lo g enough to have seen the girls unless the murdering driver was on his cell phone, speeding and or drink.

That’s great news. An arrest should be made soon. Great work FPD and CHP. Now if only our judicial system gives the POS the time locked up they deserve and not a pathetic sentence they have been known to make in situations like this.

It sickens me that anyone would have the nerve to lay any blame on the two girls. We used to live in that area and drove that road daily. It is wide enough that anyone driving even a semi truck could safely move over to make plenty of space for pedestrians. This driver is solely responsible for their deaths. This driver is a coward and I hope they are found and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law! How dare you people blame those poor girls. Karma will deal with you people too! You disgust me.

Misty, if the girls were fucking around in the road at dusk, they are to blame unless the driver intentionally ran them down. Suffice to say, lesson learned quickly, unfortunately, painfully, sadly.

Suffice to say, the driver also is to be blamed if driver knew he/she/it was driving off after impacting something. For all we know, driver says, “ya, thought it was a deer it jumped out so quick, no need to stop.” People make up weird stories to CYA sts.

If the kids were going northbound, in the southbound lane, there’s no way the driver didn’t see them, unless they were looking at their phone or elsewhere…I don’t know anyone that would get that much damage that wouldn’t pull over and look, or at least look in the rearview. It’s not even dark out at that time, and on that road there is plenty of room for vehicles and pedestrians. The girls ‘fucking around’ is based on your own assumptions. As for the driver, he should be watching where he is going, thus he is at fault.

No. The responsibility is on the driver. In that light, drivers, should be able to see two teenagers and be able to slow down or go around them.
Look at the photo. There is absolutely no trees or brush impeding views of the road. There are no curves that would hide sections of the road.

Furthermore, the road ends shortly after this, so someone should be going slow.

Speeding, intoxication, distraction. All seem like likely causes and none are those girls faults.

This is the end of a road, by a neighborhood, where young people should be safe.

They should check Murrish Markets cameras, probably headed out 36 after accident

My guess is the vehicle belongs to someone living on Drake Hill Road, or someone connected to the airport.

Hope they catch them.

Obviously nothing will bring these girls back. Obviously I don’t know the exact details of the accident itself. But fleeing the scene and leaving these two young girls lying injured in the street was, in and of itself, a horrible thing to do, and whoever did it should face the consequences.

My thoughts exactly about the checking the security cameras of all business headed out towards highway 36, even satellite cameras I know they have posted at various areas along the highway out there. Also, if anyone noticed someone pulled off the road a ways, or side road checking the out the front end of their car, or hauling ass through the smaller towns on 36. Its a horribly sad situation for the families of these two young girls. Perhaps keeping them in our thoughts and prayers is a much more beneficial way of supporting the loss of their baby girls at this time, other than pointing the finger at them placing blame. I know the only thing that is purely evident is that someone ran for no good reason, and that makes them guilty of a lot of things. Who could do this and not stop and help them? It’s ludicrous to think people like this exist.
God bless their families.

What an awful event: the killed girls, their devastated families, the driver and their family is now shattered as well the community from this event, whatever the bad choices and consequences.
Our condolences are offered but are meaningless to the horribleness.

I hope this isn’t the ex-deputy Michael Campbell that received a slap on the wrist for his drunk driving fatality. If so you don’t have much room to talk. If it’s not, I apologize. Either way, my heart goes out to the families involved in this tragedy.

There’s a guy who lives in the area, that drives a similar vehicle, that owns a body shop in the area. Probably repairing the vehicle as we speak. Again, just rumors but worth looking into

Tragedies and terrible accidents happen. It is so unbelievable that someone could flee the scene. The individual will be found and law enforcement will do its job. Lets focus on supporting those in the community who are personally and emotionally hurting. I have worked with the kids at several of our schools and am waiting with an anxious and heavy heart for the identities to be released. We are a community that will come together and comfort and support those who have lost so much.

The jeep has been found at Marci Kitchens house hidden under a tarp. Strangely, she is the mother of one of the victims….Law Enforcement will sort it out from here. Hope all involved find peace eventually.
