According to Operation Safe Streets, a Facebook group devoted to the Eureka community, and scanner traffic, a man was stabbed on the Boardwalk early this morning about 12:25 a.m.  Eureka Police located the man bleeding from a puncture wound to his chest and he was taken to the hospital.

Five young male suspects reportedly left the area prior to law enforcement’s arrival.

UPDATE 1:33 p.m.: Press release from Eureka Police Department:

On 07/06/16, at about 12:18 a.m., Eureka Police Department officers were dispatched to a reported stabbing that had just occurred at 1st and “C” streets. Officers arrived and located an adult male victim sitting on a nearby bench. The victim had sustained what appeared to be two stab wounds to the upper torso area. Medical aid arrived and the victim was soon transported to a local hospital. No witnesses were located.

The victim told officers he was sitting on a bench in the C Street Market Square. A group of five juveniles were setting off firecrackers nearby. The juveniles approached the victim and asked if he “wanted some dynamite.” The victim said that he didn’t want any and some kind of verbal altercation ensued between them. This was followed by a physical altercation reportedly involving the victim and most, if not all, of the juveniles. During this time, one of the juveniles apparently stabbed the victim twice with an unknown type weapon. The juveniles then fled the scene, possibly eastbound on 1st street. Officers checked the area and were unable to locate anyone matching the description of the suspects. The victim was released to the hospital for treatment of his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact the Eureka Police Department at (707) 441-4060.

Sad. Can’t go anywhere around here anymore without fear of some crazy person, bum or otherwise, ruining it…

This is where rhetoric becomes dangerous; young men hearing older folks complain about “those damn transients” as the core of all problems.
We will start seeing homeless beaten to death again here, unfortunately. There wasn’t even a large homeless population when that man was beaten to death years ago at the redway p.office.
I truly hope the families of these boys have someone in their family end up homeless or with mental illness.
Its necessary as our culture as a whole really won’t take the time to understand anyone else’s situation until it happens close to home.

Right now our politics locally and nationally are promoting selective hate. Really think if you want your teen spending life in jail because you so want to believe that one homeless person is hurting your income/community.

I went to Jack’s Seafood last night ($2 taco tuesdays and $3 pints are amazing). Some guy was sitting out in the market square exclaiming about his AK47 he owns and how he will have the upper hand in any escalated conflict. If it was that guy, I’d guess he probably instigated the situation and then got stabbed by his own knife.

They do not mention the race of the attackers so I wonder what that is about.

I wonder if this is the same group of young people tagging the Rio Dell area – and other areas. Too much time on their hands, a little gas in a car and they can travel around causing trouble.
