[UPDATE Tuesday] ‘Milepost’ Fire Jumps to 56 Acres!

Milepost fire at 7:09 p.m. July 4, 2016The Milepost Fire which is approximately one mile south of Weitchpec along Hwy 96 has grown to 56 acres. The blaze which was reported about 2 p.m. had grown to five acres as of 3 p.m. But as of 7:07 p.m, Matt Salmon of the US Forest Service reported the blaze had greatly expanded with only 20% containment.

Laura Coleman of Cal Fire writes that in spite of the big jump earlier, the fire has a “slow rate of spread” and crews are “making good progress.”

NOAA’s infrared map of the area shows the fire glowing about 4:23 p.m.

UPDATE 7:36 p.m.: One way traffic control on Hwy 96 by the fire.

UPDATE Tuesday: According to Laura Coleman, Cal Fire spokesperson, the Milepost fire reached 58 acres. The forward spreed stopped. There are still ground resources at scene mopping up. However, all Cal Fire resources are released.
