201603248 Sanders_280x420_thumbOn Friday, June 24, 2016, Agents with the Drug Enforcement Unit and Humboldt County Drug Task Force were conducting proactive narcotics enforcement in the Eel River Valley area of Humboldt County. At about 7:45 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriffs Dispatch Center received numerous reports of a large U-Haul truck being loaded with two to three foot tall marijuana plants in the Barber Creek Road area of Hydesville. DEU learned the U-Haul was being loaded by three white male adults, two white female adults, and two white male juveniles.

Upon arrival in the area, DEU/DTF Agents located the U-Haul turning onto HWY 36 from Barber Creek Road. Agents conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and contacted the driver, 44 year old Paul Andrew Sanders. Sanders was detained and Agents were able to search the U-Haul. Agents located a total of seventy-four 3’ tall marijuana plants in the U-Haul.

Sanders was taken to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for transportation for sales of marijuana. His bail was set at $25,000. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information for the Sheriff’s Office regarding this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 707-445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at 707-268-2539.201603248_420x280_thumb

this is very worrying to me. as far as i know, it is not against any state law to load up your plants and move them. where is the probable cause for the stop? “the Humboldt County Sheriffs Dispatch Center received numerous reports of a large U-Haul truck being loaded with two to three foot tall marijuana plants in the Barber Creek Road area of Hydesville.” so how were the reporting parties able to determine the plants were not legal? at what point was the activity deemed to be a crime? unless i am missing something.

Agreed! It is not a crime anymore. And 70 or so plants is definitely not a crime! WTF people. Stop throwing metal rods in our spokes.

Probable cause was blown out of the water by the supreme court last week.

You can be stopped, at any time, and required to ‘show your papers’ and the cops can take it from there.

Down here in NoMen, we were instructed to roll down the window just a slit and pass the “papers” through while NOT agreeing to anything else. A neighbor did this and, unable to come up with an excuse, the cop went away. Keep your vehicle scrupulously clean, all lights working, and say Sir (or Mam) at every opportunity….and don’t bend over. af

People should learn to mind their own fucking business! They complain if the neighbors are growing weed next door and they complain when the neighbors are moving their plants to somewhere that’s not next door.

you are so correct Sleepy, people are unhappy when the pot is next door to them, then when you move it, they are unhappy it is gone. Now they have nothing to complain about. Truth is these people are unhappy the moment they wake up. it has nothing to do with you or any pot grower, they are just sour puss. and you are the object they place the blame on for their terrible mind set.

Call me old school, I guess I’m just stuck in Humboldt circa 1989. Where the grower was considered public enemy number one and people did have lives destroyed and could end up in prison for decades for growing. We are still not quite out of the shadows, no matter what you keep telling yourselves. Use a little discretion.

From the title of the article, for some reason I was expecting this to be a real up and coming business. But anyway, wonder if the driver pulled the good old ‘ but those are just hemp plants officer’ XD
