I Am Humboldt

A new Facebook page has recently been launched, recognizing the many interesting faces and stories of Humboldt.  The page, I Am Humboldt, was created in the spirit of the Humans of New York photo project.

From the I Am Humboldt Facebook page:

Humboldt County is full of people each with their own unique story to share. We are all people, part of the human experience. Inspired by Humans of New York, this project is to share our stories through photos. We want to bring our community closer together and ask that the comments on this page remain of the positive and encouraging nature. The purpose of I am Humboldt is to illustrate how we are all unique yet, at heart, very much the same.

Today’s I Am Humboldt posting highlighted one of our local Foster hero families:

“We’ve been providing care for over 11 years to all ages of children. It is a selfless act of loving unconditionally with a risk of being hurt. We feel every child deserves to have a safe place to live and sleep at night and it is not the child’s fault they are in care and we want them to know that. We have had over 175 placements and 10 have found their forever home with us and our family with the most recent the boys who we adopted in March! We not only accept and love the children as a part of our family but also try hard to embrace the bio family while they are in care. It is planting a seed one life at a time and hoping and watching it grow! Without communication and openness reunification with family is nearly impossible so we really strive to be an active part of each family’s lives we work with. We have adopted as old as 16 yrs old and as young as 3. I couldn’t imagine any other way to give back to our community than to embrace the kids who are hurting and in need and to show them safety and love.” Melissa & Nickie

The I Am Humboldt crew is always looking for new faces to photograph and stories to tell.  Know someone with a positive tale to tell?  Please message them on their page.

I agree what a wonderful thing you ladys are doing with all the bad that goes on in Humboldt County being born a raised in Humboldt. I find it so refreshing that there is still kindness a love for those wayward children ,and again way to go ladys ,and God bless

Some people got it, some don’t. Sounds like they were born for this.
Thanks for caring.

So proud to call you both my friend. Parenting is never easy and parenting through foster care is even harder, so glad you have the heart and Determination to stick it out. These kids are lucky to have you.

Just to let you know, my now deceased wife & I were Foster Parents in Scotia & the Fortuna area for about 35 years and put about 250 children through our homes. I applaud those who makes this sacrifice to help children of our Communities to try and have a better life and to succeed in what they are trying to accomplish. We also set up a Scholarship through the Fortuna Union High School District to help a Student that is in Foster Care and is graduating to apply for help if they are going to College.

I have so much love and respect for Melissa and Nickie. We are in the process of adopting our granddaughter. Their home was my baby’s home for a while. I am forever grateful to you for giving our baby love, and a safe place to live. You guys will forever have a special place in our hearts!

Melissa you were 1 of my very 1st foster homes and not only did you guys have me placed in your home 1 or 2 times but 3. You guys never gave up on me. You taught me what it was like to feel a part of a family what it was like to be loved and cared for. Though I am now an adult and I now have family of my own I realize what you and your family did for me and I am beyond grateful
Love always
Tabby 💙
