CHP Blames Drunken Parking for Major Injuries a Woman Received This Morning

This is a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

chpstarOn Friday, May 06, 2016, a 2005 Land Rover was making a parking maneuver on Plunkett Road, east of Jacoby Creek Road, when it drove over a passenger who suddenly exited in the vehicle while it was in motion.

At approximately 2:00 a.m., CHP officers responded to a traffic collision on Plunkett Road, east of Jacoby Creek Road. A 2005 Land Rover, driven by, Timothy Bolton, age 45, of Arcata, was pulling into a driveway on Plunkett Road when one of his passengers, Jennifer Mallett, age 35, of Arcata, suddenly exited the Land Rover and was subsequently run over. As a result of this collision, Mallet sustained major injuries including a broken leg, fractured pelvis and abrasions. Mallet was transported by ground ambulance to Mad River Hospital. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in this collision and the driver, Bolton, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The California Highway Patrol Humboldt Area is investigating this traffic collision.

    Sounds less like “drunken parking” and more like drunken exiting to me.

    reads like a case where the dui law does more harm than good. if the woman isnt going to make an issue of “dui” and the accident is between friends, who must already feel bad as possible, then hopefully the dui will be dropped. otherwise it ads additional insult and all kinds of financial injury to the driver, who’s in enough hot water as it is.
