Bobbie Faye (Lankford) Pogue: Loved by Many

This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and a few sentences to [email protected]. Tell us why you would like to honor the person–is it their birthday, the date of their passing or some other date of significance to you.

Bobbie Faye (Lankford) Pogue 1946-2016

Bobbie was born on February 24th, 1946 in Laurel, Mississippi to Robert “Bob” Lankford and Edith (Gossien) Lankford. She was the firstborn of five children. She died at home surrounded by her family on May 1st, 2016.She moved with her family to the Garberville area in 1954. She attended Garberville Elementary and South Fork High School. Bobbie nearly lived her entire life in southern Humboldt County. She worked in many restaurants in the area; most notably the Riverwood Inn and as co-owner operator of the Roadrunner Cafe, in Phillipsville from 1969 until her retirement in 2001.

She was an active member in the Phillipsville Fire Department, where she volunteered many hours along with several friends to raise funds for the department. Beside her were Mo Beebe, Donna Wygal, Sharon Toborg, Doris Miller, and many others. Together these ladies held the annual Hot August Days in Phillipsville, where she ran the snack shack to sell burgers and drinks to raise funds for fire engines and to also build the fire house. The snack shack also serviced the Phillipsville Motocross Track for the years it was opened and operated by the Beebe’s. She would also host the pancake feed annually every biker weekend to raise funds for various fire department needs. Bobbie also sold thousands of tickets for the Phillipsville Fire Dept. annual Valentine’s Day drawing for the Hawaii retreat for two.

Bobbie enjoyed working in her garden and she built flowerbeds that were admired by all. She also loved casinos and slot machines. Those slot machines returned the love making her the winner of numerous jackpots.

Bobbie was very close to her family and no woman ever had a closer relationship with their grandchildren than she.

I went to school with Bobbie, she was a nice girl. She had the brightest red hair
that I’ve ever seen. She was a great cook. We always thought that it was a great treat to eat at the Road Runner. I’m sorry for our loss. Condolences to her friends and family.

Whoever wrote this obituary did a beautiful job. To the immediate family thanks for sharing your mom with me while we grew up. She was a really solid and down to earth part of my life. I am very sad for you all. I am currently traveling and afraid I am not going to be back for the funeral. I feel like I too should’ve made effort to say goodbye. But my respects are certainly there even though I will not be. My heart goes out to you all.
