Suspect in Marijuana Robbery Fails to Show in Court; Bounty Hunters Are Looking for Him
When George Daniels didn’t show up at the Humboldt County Courthouse on March 24, not only did law enforcement start looking for him but, his bail bondsman got worried. “If we can’t find him, we have to cough up $50,000,” explained Steve Payton of Bill Davidson Bail Bonds today.* “We’re putting out wanted posters.”
His company also contracted with bounty hunters. These hunters were out today looking for property that Daniels reportedly might be hiding on in the Dinsmore area. If you saw a small, yellow plane circling the area today, now you know why.Payton said that he has received several reports that Daniels has been spotted in Rio Dell, Hoopa, and in Dinsmore. “If we get a credible lead, the reward will be based on information leading to his arrest.”
Late last October, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office arrested Daniels after a truck struck a guardrail and fled but not before the driver was allegedly seen dropping “a load of marijuana and a bicycle into a ditch.”Eventually, approximately 800 pounds of freshly harvested marijuana were discovered as well as a loaded sawed off rifle. In a press release, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department stated, “Deputies suspect Daniels possibly just committed a marijuana robbery.”
Payton urges anyone who has credible evidence of Daniels whereabouts to contact either the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or to text (707) 496-9493. “He’s known to carry firearms,” Payton said. “Don’t approach him.”
