Multiple Deaths Prompt Warning About Fentanyl Overdoses

Press release from Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services:

humboldt county department of health and human servicesLocal residents who use illegal or “street” drugs may be at increased risk of overdose, according to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Pills and tablets that look like Norco®, Vicodin® and other pain medications may contain fentanyl, a powerful opioid that is many times stronger than morphine. Heroin may also be laced with fentanyl.

Fentanyl is colorless and odorless and cannot be detected without laboratory testing. Using drugs that contain fentanyl can lead to overdose and death.

According to the CDPH, Sacramento County health officials recently reported 48 overdoses of illicitly obtained drugs with at least 10 deaths over a 10-day period. Several Northern California counties have also received reports of overdoses and deaths potentially related to fentanyl.

“These overdoses and deaths are tragic reminders that unless you receive a drug at a pharmacy, you shouldn’t take it,” said Dr. Karen Smith, CDPH Director and State Public Health Officer.

The overdose prevention drug Naloxone (Narcan) is effective in reversing the effects of fentanyl. However, it may take repeated doses of Naloxone over several hours to adequately treat fentanyl overdose, likely due to fentanyl’s long half-life. If you suspect someone has overdosed, always call 911.

To learn more about Naloxone, or to obtain a Naloxone kit, please phone 707-268-2132.

Why so they can get a naloxone kit… Or so they can make sure they just buy their pain pills from their uncle who gets a huge prescription of the governments just as deadly drugs? Fuck these functioning zombies!

Real compassionate Joe. Talk to someone who has lost a 20 year old grandchild from a heroin overdose that might have been prevented with narcan, [edit]

Sorry for your loss, however, no one held the person down and forced the drug into them. Somewhere the individual has to take responsibility for their own actions. Why does the taxpayer have to pay for all their problems (most of which were self induced)

For anyone that may misconstrue my comment, and that know her, it was not my grandaughter but one of a longtime southern Humboldt woman whose grandchild overdosed…

Your knowledge of addiction is obviously nonexistent. It is recognized as a disease.

The tax argument always gets me. You might take a look at some of the scary places that a large part of our taxes go to.

Probably you’re a Republican….. Trump fan ? Kym, if you have to edit me again for using dirty words, like Republican and Trump in this case, I totally understand. Much dirtier than the one you took out of my previous comment.
