[UPDATE 7:10 p.m.] Another Escaped Debris Fire, This One at Shelter Cove
A debris fire has escaped and is spreading slowly in the Shelter Cove area off of Cook Combs Road. The fire is approximately one acre as of 2:15 p.m. A line has been “scratched” around 80% of the fire. The Shelter Cove crew is on scene.
The crews are busy in that corner of the county. In addition to the fire, traffic on the scanner states that there is someone with a fractured leg needing medical help.

UPDATE 7:10 p.m.: Cheryl Antony, spokesperson for the Shelter Cove Fire Department tells us that the fire burned about one acre. The volunteer fire fighters battled the escaped blaze and then mopped up for a total of five hours.
“We are fortunate to have fire hydrants and lots of water,” she noted. They were also fortunate to have the assistance of a Cal Fire engine.
“Our ambulance and some of our crew had to divert to a medical aid that showed up at the station as the last truck was leaving for the fire,” she explained. “After we sent that patient off [to] Garberville….we went back to the fire.”
Exhausted, the volunteers headed back to their homes. Hopefully, they get a little rest before facing their regular activities tomorrow.

Kit, can you see it? My email is [email protected]
I got a confirmation and updated the story.
I guess people have lost their common sense. Listen to the weather forecast. No,not channel 3 news. If you’re going to burn, start the fire at the downwind part or wait a few days and it should rain, which will happen at the end of the week. Then light’er up and it will be gone in a hurry!
Ridiculous.
Hey dummies you can rent a chipper at just rent it for around $150 a day, and get nice wood chips for your yard, as well as not burning your neighborhood down. Omg think, people!!!
Looks like a control burn to me, better now then later. Hopes they saves some of the firewood.
That hydrant sure was conveniently located.
