[UPDATE 7:32 p.m.] Structure Fire on Berta Road, Heavy Flames Showing

Fire crews are at the scene of a structure fire in the 7500 block of Berta Road. The call went out over the scanner around 5:15 p.m.

Scanner traffic indicates there is “heavy” fire coming out of the south side of the structure, and there are 50-gallon fuel tanks on each side of the structure. A second alarm has been requested. We’ll update when we hear more.

UPDATE 6:11 p.m.: Looks like fire is out, our reporter at the scene tells us. Only smoke is coming from the building now. There is a broken window. A lot of fire trucks are leaving. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is on scene.

Thank you firefighters for a great job and for protecting the neighborhood. As a resident of this area, I’m glad the firefighters only had to navigate a horrible, deep pothole ridden road, and not two feet of swift flowing flood water.
