[UPDATE 7:32 p.m.] Structure Fire on Berta Road, Heavy Flames Showing
Fire crews are at the scene of a structure fire in the 7500 block of Berta Road. The call went out over the scanner around 5:15 p.m.
Scanner traffic indicates there is “heavy” fire coming out of the south side of the structure, and there are 50-gallon fuel tanks on each side of the structure. A second alarm has been requested. We’ll update when we hear more.
UPDATE 6:11 p.m.: Looks like fire is out, our reporter at the scene tells us. Only smoke is coming from the building now. There is a broken window. A lot of fire trucks are leaving. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is on scene.
UPDATE 6:33 p.m.:
UPDATE 7 p.m.: According to Sean Robertson Battalion Chief from Humboldt Bay Fire, there was an altercation prior to the fire. It is unconfirmed that the altercation was related to the fire. There is extensive fire damage in the home. At this point, an investigation is ongoing.

Thank you firefighters for a great job and for protecting the neighborhood. As a resident of this area, I’m glad the firefighters only had to navigate a horrible, deep pothole ridden road, and not two feet of swift flowing flood water.
