On Thursday, March 17, 2016 at about 8:17 p.m., a Humboldt County Deputy Sheriff observed two dark colored sedans pass her location at a high rate of speed on Redwood Dr. in Garberville. The deputy followed the vehicles onto northbound Highway 101. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on one of the vehicles, a black 2013 Nissan Altima, CA license plate 7PXM363. The vehicle exited the freeway at Dean Creek Rd. The deputy approached the vehicle and recognized the driver to be 29 year old Michael Hoyt Russell, one of Southern Humboldt Most Wanted. Russell’s vehicle suddenly accelerated and got back onto northbound HWY 101.
The deputy pursued Russell and lost sight of his vehicle at Sylvandale. The vehicle was later located unoccupied in the parking lot of the Phillipsville Volunteer Fire Department. Deputies did not locate Russell after searching the area.

What sort of amateur deputy do we have on patrol here?
this is ridicilous.
incompetent .
boo!
If the deputy was any kind of driver he should and could have caught him easily driving a crown victoria police Interceptor you know how I know it’s cuz I have one and mine haulsass at least get the license plate number jackass. Nissan altima please!!!!!!!
It was a woman deputy. I listened to the entire chase on my scanner. Speeds of over 100 miles an hour. The deputy was TOLD to discontinue pursuit. She continued on 101 to the Miranda exit, while another deputy took the P’ville exit. Great police work IMO. The guy will get caught. And he lost his ride.
Mogtx, The article gave the license plate number.
Oops I didn’t see that good thing she the police person did catch the license plate. My bad
7PXM363
And risked how many other drivers with a high-speed chase?
Altima is a very fast car but a piece of shit like all Nissans. That idiot who used to come on and denigrate Toyotas and their drivers probably drives one.
He didn’t lose his ride!
It’s still on the road. I reported seeing him driving it last night at around 9:30pm heading southbound on 101. He entered the highway at the Miranda on ramp and was traveling at a high rate of speed.
