[Update: Minor Incidents] “Very Large Boulder” and Tree on 299

# # # Update # # #

Both of these incidents turned out to be minor.

The California Highway Patrol page is reporting that a “very large boulder” has rolled onto Highway 299. Unlike the recent slide that happened near Big Bar, this one is in Humboldt County. At this point, we don’t know how much of the road is blocked, but we will update this post when we find out more.

Update: The incident was posted on the CHP incident page at 7:04 p.m.  At this point, the incident has been taken off of the page.

Update: There was also a report of a tree blocking one lane of the highway just east of that location.

Update: Unlike what was initially reported to dispatchers, it turned out the tree wasn’t in the roadway.

Any chance you could put time stamp on article title next to the date showing time of article postings?

where did you drive from or to? Cal trans says it’s still closed. Just curious because I need to get from Redding to Eureka today.

Road is closed according to CalTrans: http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/display.php?page=sr299
Use Highway 36. Best route from Redding is 299 to 3 then 3 to 36.
