[UPDATE 11:52 a.m.] Sheriff’s Office Searches for Three Males With Ski Masks and Firearms After Home Invasion Near Weitchpec

HCSO Humboldt County Sheriff's Office BlurAbout 11:44 last night, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a home invasion on Lower Cappell Road, near Weitchpec. “There were three males wearing ski masks and carrying firearms,” said Sgt Tony Gomes. “They entered the residence and ziptied the three victims. They stole cash and a white Toyota Tundra pickup.”

The victims were not injured.

At this point, Gomes doesn’t have the investigative report so he doesn’t have more details. However, he said, further information should be released later today.

UPDATE 11:52 a.m.: Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On Sunday, February 28, 2016 at about 11:44 p.m. Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Lower Cappell Rd in Weitchpec for the report of a robbery that just occurred. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the three victims. The victims told deputies at about 9:30 p.m. three males, one armed with a pistol and two with shotguns, entered their residence. The suspects were wearing jackets with Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office emblems. The suspects tied up the victims with zip ties and the suspects demanded marijuana, cash, and guns. The three suspects stole cash and a 2014 white Toyota Tundra pick-up truck prior to leaving the scene.

This case is currently under investigation and more information will be released once it is learned.

I doubt the ski masks/jackets description is going to be much help in aiding identification. Chances are they’ve been removed by now.

I agree! The S.O. should have released the license# on the pickup! They stole it, so the robbed occupants should have had the # somewhere!

Nothing is as it seems. There’s ALWAYS more to the story.

Half the time I think this is just a ploy to walk away w someone’s cash.
Back in my day, you were on the hook for the cash unless you could produce a little proof that you were busted or robbed or somehow tripped up. But my day is long past and today’s grower/ smuggler is another breed all together.
I’m really doubting the sheriffs office insignia as is anyone else w half a brain.
