Trinidad Houda Point Coast Guard rescue of two surfers caught in current, had to climb on rocks. One rescue swimmer dropped down and both surfers were rescued in the basket. Not sure, but most observers thought the surfers looked ok, sitting upright in the basket, we hope.
Not sure why they would be out swimming in the ocean when there is warnings of sneaker waves, and the under-tow is terrible. Thank you Coast Guard for being there to help them
Likely, they were willfully oblivious to weather reports, including surf conditions. Most of these unexplainable weather-related disasters start that way. Since I am a good person, loved by people and God, nothing really bad can happen to me.
Same thing happened yesterday at Goat Rock in Sonoma County. 12-15′ beach break with a massive rip tide and the Darwin Award contestants go for a swim. Three had to be pulled out by the Sheriff’s chopper.
So do they get to foot the bill for their rescue for such ignorance? Glad they are safe but why in the world would anyone be swimming OR surfing in this ocean this time of year? It’s beyond my comprehension! Anytime of the year for that matter!!
In BC out of bound skiers who ignore warnings get the bill for their rescue if it’s needed. Cuts down on stupid tricks. Glad everyone is safe and thank you CG.
The limitations of the ignorant hold no boundaries…… darwinism contestants!
Well put, but they could have perhaps been tourists just unaware. 😉
Being unaware is the same as ignorant. If your going to do something as stupid as swim in the Pacific Ocean anytime not only are you ignorant but you should probably go see a doctor to have your head examined. Or atleast pose pretty for your last picture at the Darwininian Awards.
Local buoy was reading 12′ at 17 seconds out of the West at 5pm. That’s big and heavy.

Exactly right. And anybody can access that info and a weather report, from any one of several devices that most people carry with them night and day, or at home on cable. Never mind, can’t be bothered.

The ocean is very vigilant and patient. Always waiting, always reaching.
