(Photos) Truck Driver Injured in Crash Near Weott

Around 3:10 p.m., a truck carrying dry ice crashed near Weott.

Our reporter/editor Kym Kemp is at the scene and tells us the crash was on a Highway 101 offramp. A California Highway Patrol sergeant told Kemp that the man driving the vehicle suffered minor to moderate injuries in the crash.

At the moment, the offramp is blocked. Kemp says it will likely be closed for a while. Avoid the area if possible.

We’ll be updating with more photos momentarily.

Update 4:52 p.m.: Another photo from the scene.

That’s right in the middle of a long straight stretch. How do wrecks keep happening there? Hope he will be okay.

Dry ice is pure Co2. I hope that it doesn’t kill the atmosphere.

Actually the off ramp is on a tight curve, though the highway is straight right after that.

I thought dry ice was banned in humboldt. Even rays doesn’t carry it anymore. Was he just passing thru?

Both ice companies in Eureka sell it, where did you hear it was banned?

Rays said they weren’t allowed to distribute it because of new laws. When I phoned the ice company which was about a year ago they couldn’t get any either.

This is incorrect. The man driving is my dad and he delivers dry ice to Rays at multiple locations.

Maybe everyone could get over the fact that a few hundred pounds of dry ice was opened on the road.
Maybe we could realize that a man, almost lost his life in this accident.
A father of 3 with 1 on the way. A grandfather of 3!!!

Do any of you see how tore up the cab is?

For fucks sake.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to.

I was talking about dry ice being banned from Humboldt and not sold at Ray’s.

I believe it is a State Highway. County engineers build awesome stuff like the bridge over Williams Creek southeast of Ferndale

Some city’s ban dry ice because it can be put in a plastic bottle and sealed causing it to explode from over pressure. Search dry ice bomb…

It can be used to dry weed in small amounts. That much looks like you could dry out a “WHOAL LOTTA WEED”.

Thanks everyone for all your funny comments.
Pretty sure it was a blow out on the right front.
I was driving south with the cruise control set at 65mph, both hands on the wheel. All of the sudden I was crashing against the right sidewall of the overpass, careening across all four lanes (could not regain control), then flying off the embankment into the northbound off ramp. Closed my eyes, and next thing I know there was asphalt outside my window. I crawled out and there was a nice man there, very surprised that I was alive. He went in the truck for me and grabbed my cell. I called my wife and asked her to meet me at Redwood memorial. I was home by 9 P.M.
Fear not. Dry Ice will be refilled everywhere this Saturday.
The show must go on!
🙂

We’re glad you’re okay! (And a little amazed….the cab of that truck was a mess.) Take care.

Was the driver going south? I ask this cuz the dirt in the 3rd pic is before the truck and it is laying on its drivers side. I passed by about 515-520 pm, looked bad! Glad the driver wasn’t hurt worse than he was.
