A Humboldt County Sheriff’s vehicle was in an accident about 10 miles west of Willow Creek on Highway 299 about 5 p.m. today, according to a reader who sent in the photo above. The officer received only minor injuries but the vehicle was totaled, according to scanner traffic.

“[I]t looks like it hit the bluff and rolled over,” explained the reader.

A sergeant with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the incident had occurred but had no details as of 6 p.m.

One lane was closed and a  California Highway Patrol officer was on scene directing traffic.

So as taxpayers we’d like to know how this happened.
We all know a lot of these chp officers feel like they are above the law and play God with the rest of us little peasants.
It sure looks as if he lost control of his vehicle due high speed.
I’m sure you all remember the young inexperienced chp officer that lost a control of his vehicle a couple years back in so hum, slid into oncoming lanes and managed to kill the folks he slid into.
We don’t like this sort of macho john Wayne like driving behavior and need to clarify what exactly happened here and why this chp cruiser is upside down.

Dude, you better conduct a fact check before you write this crap. I live near where the collision occurred a couple of years ago. The CHP officer that slid across the lanes of traffic collided into a Toyota Tundra with two occupants. They sustained minor injuries and he died at the scene.

First of all, Learn how to read! It was SHERIFF’S . Also get your facts straight, “that chp officer” Did not kill anyone, he lost his life. [edit] They are trained to drive at high speeds so they can respond on a timely manner help save lives of people like, you, you mother, sisters, brothers, kids or whom ever you might know. I have never seen or heard of someone bashing or screaming or critizing law enforcement when they come to the rescue.

Very few people ever get a gold medal in the Olympics for a perfect performance. The ones that do made many thousands of mistakes first. Give the guy a break- he has less tickets, accidents, and DUI’s then you and yours. He is John Wayne, especially when you need help. These cops give us A LOT of freaking breaks and you want to run to the front of the line and kick someone when they’re down. It’s easy to recognize his one mistake, but he doesn’t anonymously post your beating up your husband after some gin and mushrooms.

It is a HCSO vehicle. CHP is directing traffic. Can’t you read? There’s even a picture!

Only a proletarian believes everything he reads. Don’t be one bro.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proletariat
The proletariat (/ˌproʊlɪˈtɛəriːət/ from Latin proletarius) is a term for the class of wage-earners (especially industrial workers), in a capitalist society, whose only possession of significant material value is their labor-power (their ability to work); a member of such a class is a proletarian.

I don’t think you’re using it right.

The car was a HCS…. Loco has some clearer pics…. I thought it was chp at first too.

We’d also like to know who is investigating this crash!
Please don’t tell us they are going to investigate their own crash.
That would be like letting school children write their own report cards.

I used to drive that road daily. There are a LOT of dope smokers on 299 going to theirs grows who drive on the wrong side of the double yellow line on the road form time to time that force the law abiding like us to suddenly swerve on a blind turn. And with wet roads it gets very dicey. If you look closely at the picture the road is still wet. I saw plenty of tragic accidents on 299 caused by that. I would not be surprised if that’s what happened to this deputy. The deputies that work in Willow Creek are decent guys. Don’t bash them unless you actually KNOW them. They put their lives on the line for us.

To answer the previous question, CHP investigates HCSO crashes.

Being a cop is not as dangerous as most people think. Over half off police fatalities on the job are actually caused by traffic accidents. Americans are also nine times more likely to be shot by a cop then to be shot in a mass shooting.
